Fun fish and chips shop by the waterfront. The salmon was good but the battery could have more flavour. Very good fries. Also batter let down the calamari too.
We stumbled across Troller’s on our way through Nanaimo and decided to stop for lunch. It was one of the best decisions we made. The halibut and fresh clam chowder despite the hot weather was absolutely delicious. The food was second only to our view - we sat in the back corner of the quaint eatery, our backs to the water right behind us. Glancing down, we watched little fish dart around. Our backdrop - the harbour and distant mountains. The service was incredible, and although it was busy, we were always attended to by our bubbly server who always had a smile on his face. This was truly a great experience and I highly recommend Troller’s for a must-see Nanaimo spot.
Great fish and chips and even better crab cakes! Sauces are also great. Line up and waiting times can be long though. We went twice and waited 30minutes for our takeout, but well worth the wait.
I didn't enjoy my meal at all. Fish was soft. The chips were too thin and the mushy peas were mashed sweet peas not British mushy peas. Good location but I will not be going back. I was really looking forward to eating here as there were lots of reviews. So disappointing. I had 2 piece halibut and chips, calamari and "mushy peas". Update: We were back on the Island and decided to try it again after the reply from Trollers that our last meal was unusual. It was so much better this time! The batter was light and crispy as stated in the reply. I am not sure what happened the first time but we thoroughly enjoyed the halibut, the server and the atmosphere this time. There was a gentleman playing the keyboard while we were eating which added to the experience.
My third time at Trollers and they are always awesome! It is a must-visit place for us during our family visits to the island! Their delicious Oyster Burger and Crab Cake are two of my favorite items on the menu. This time was for take out but food is still delicious!
Really good food. First Fish and Chips that I have tried that is not greasy. Very yummy. I will come back for sure!
First visit: I am craving for fish and chips and we found this place in Nanaimo Marina, they're restaurant is floating on the marina which is great and nice, shaky but nice, the food are ok, the fries that we got on the first day was a bit burned but they offered to replace it and its finally ok. fish are crispy and hot which is good, sides like coleslaw would need a bit more flavor to the sauce, the cabage are crunchy, salads are great and the mushy peas was fantastic! They offered a complimentary $25 coupon for a second visit which was very nice. Second Visit: We oredered clam chowder, Fanny bay oyster burger and chips. We need to come back for the oyster as it was not available on our first visit, it was crunchy, the fries is not oily and the burger was great! , clam chowder was creamy and tasty. Verdict: This restaurant is a must to try, the staff are friendly and its location is fantastic. Parking is cheap, $1.50 for 2 hours, washroom is not available in the restaurant but they will give you a key to access the Marina employee washroom use only. Troller Fish & Chips is a must try restaurant when you visit Nanaimo, BC downtown Marina.
This is a fantastic fish-and-chips restaurant right on the docks at Nanaimo Harbour. I got the battered oysters and chips. The oysters were from Fanny Bay and were fresh and delicious; the dipping sauce had zing and the coleslaw had crunch. I left fully satisfied and eager to try all the other things on the menu. I highly recommend Trollers for a date, a dinner, of just a snack.
The cod and chips were fantastic. Very lightly battered. Homemade fries! Homemade everything. We were seated outside in the new dock tables in the sun with a beautiful umbrella. The staff were top notch. The lovely waitress was so personable and made sure we had and awesome experience. She kindly explained how the process would work, how to order etc. No guessing! Full on care regarding dealing with covid protocols. Very clean and sanitized between patrons. Only downfalls that it is not licensed.
Lots of people appear to love their fish & chips here, so just consider this to be one person's opinion... To me, the halibut tasted like cod. It was moist and tender, but was surrounded by a grease-soaked batter. The tarter sauce was potent and overpowering. The fries were plentiful, but mushy. I'm fairly certain they were from frozen. For the excessive price they charge, they should be fresh cut. Friendly staff.
