Tonight was our first time trying Maggie’s and the food was Devine! We both ordered the halibut that came with fries, coleslaw, a slice of lemon & tarter sauce. The fish was crispy on the outside & moist, not to oily. I hope the few who rated you poorly will give you another chance, because we had an excellent experience and the food was cooked to perfection. The portion sizes are huge, which reflects the price and it is more fish then batter. We will most defiantly be returning again in the future : thank you for the delicious meal. Oh and the tarter sauce was amazing! I don’t usually like tarter sauce but this one was delicious.
Ordered the halibut fish and chips two piece, while my partner ordered the five deep fried oysters. The fish was quite good, it paired well with the in house tar tar sauce, my partner enjoyed the oysters but found the batter to be a bit on the heavy side. Not a bad place for a quick and decent lunch. Worth a stop if your in the area for sure
So good! A small, independent, mom and pop shop, with fresh fish and chips! We took the ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo and were so happy with our first meal on the island. We tried the Lingcod two piece fish and chips and also tried the Clam Chowder. Both did not disappoint! The batter was perfectly light and not too greasy. An ideal fish to batter ratio. Our friends had tacos and cod fish and chips and everyone was so happy with their meals.
A hidden gem! Very unassuming place to eat, but delicious meals! The batter is very crispy, and thin, so you really maximise the awesome fish! Not greasy! Very large portions, and the homemade tarter sauce and coleslaw were lovely.
Staff was friendly. Place was great where you could see and purchase different types of seafoods and international goodies. Cute place they have. I had the 2piece snapper w/ fries and loved it. Price was very affordable too. They make a very nice home made tartar sauce! It takes a lot to fill up a big guy like me, but they did it! couldn't finish the last bit : I shall return!
Hands down the best fish and chips. The batter was thin but super crispy, seasoned the right amount, the chips were fried perfectly. If you are in the Nanaimo area or passing through, make sure you stop here.
Really fun, awesome lady running this place.I loved how enthusiastic she was about sharing some of her favorite foods she ate as a child. I was just expecting your average fish n chips joint, but the touch of Oriental culture really brightens the place up and overall made it quite memorable. I may have visited at an unfortunate time near closing, but I withheld one star because I could smell a mildly fishy smell coming from the back. As much as I enjoyed my experience I'm not sure I would eat seafood in that atmosphere, might be hard to get past my senses telling me it may not be as fresh as it should be..
Really great fish and chips. Not too much batter and not super greasy. Had the salmon and halibut. The owners are really great as well. Definitely deserves the 5 stars!!
Simple fast, and most of all, delicious. Many meal choices including halibut, haddock and cod. I got a two piece halibut and could only finish one. This place is about the food! Order at the till, plastic tablecloths. Clean establishment and fresh hot food
Couldn’t have asked for more delicious and fresh seafood than this! The fish and chips had a tasty super crunchy batter and the fish was cooked to perfection. Very reasonable prices and generous portion sizesA true five stars and we will definitely be back!
