This place has been well known in town for years. We are lucky there's no line up when we showed up. We had a seat within five minutes and the place was busy. Soups are rich in flavors. We had tried both the six hour chicken soup base and ten hour pork soup base. As a spicy food lover, I ordered Aka Kara and my partner has Tokyo Tonkotsu. I didn't find Aka Kara super spicy but the lady besides me, who has the same order, seems to struggle a little. We do find the soup is a bit salty thus we didn't finish them as we used to do in other ramen restaurants. The noodles are cooked to perfection. The service is perfect, fast and attentive.
Tokiwa since opening has become the standard for Ramen in Edmonton. The ramen and broth taste great and the service is quick and efficient. Things to note are that the place fills up pretty quickly - it opens at 11 AM and when we got there at 10:45 AM there are already 10 people lined up ahead of us. If you come during latter parts of the day be prepared to wait. Also, they take cash and debit only, but they make that very clear. Definitely a must-visit and return visit for us!
Really tasty ramen would recommend trying for sure if you're a ramen fan! I have found Ramen from Edmonton and Alberta just doesn't compare the my favorites in Vancouver and Toronto Santouka, Danbo, Isshin. Tokiwa is a great option close to home though. The Tonkotsu and Goma Goma were both deeply flavourful the noodles were great. I think they have pretty unique flavours here!
One of our favorite places for a fast and delicious lunch. You can literally be in and out in less than an hour, the service is so amazing. I love the veggie goma make it extra spicy and my son is eating his way through the rest of the menu lol. There is often a bit of a wait but it doesn't take long at all. Note they have limited hours, as they open at 11am and close when they're out of noodles, which I find is usually around 3pm. Cash and debit only and you can't order to-go but you can take your leftovers home. I was just there yesterday and will definitely be back again soon!
Tokiwa Ramen is by far my favourite ramen spot in the city for a number of reasons: one: the FLAVOUR! I’ve had 3 different ramen dishes and their pork rice bowl, and I am yet to be disappointed. two: the EXPERIENCE! Not only is their restaurant a cute vibe. But their take-out Ramen kits are very well put together and rather enjoyable to make. three: the PRICE! At roughly $14 a bowl, you really can’t beat that price for the quality and quantity of food! Not only am I a food enthusiast, but I also happen to be a lover of all things romance! This weekend I pre-ordered their ramen kit and I totally think this is an awesome date night activity. I ordered the Goma Goma and Spicy Goma ramen this time around, but I’ve also tried their Black Garlic ramen and pork rice bowl in the past! Everything was delicious, and the at home bowl was just as good as having it dine-instyle. If you haven’t tried ramen before, I totally recommend you start here and if you are just craving, Tokiwa Ramen will defiantly hit the spot!
A long line up even in a windy wintry day is a testament this Ramen house will not disappoint you. Their menu is simple, but the broth alone is so rich in flavor. I truly appreciate the time and effort they put in making the broth which I personally believe is the essence of a good ramen. The chewy noodles and toppings completes the dish.
Amazing food served by lovely staff. Everytime I have gone which has been three times now it has been phenomenal! I had the TOKYO TONKOTSU - Tokyo style, shoyu soy broth with extra pork and the GF had the CHUKA SOBA - classic shoyu soy broth but substituted tofu for the meat. The second and third time I got the GOMA GOMA - nikumiso chopped pork with chili oil drizzle with extra pork and then I tried the SPICY GOMA - moderately spicy goma goma with extra pork however this time I mistakenly asked for shredded pork instead of chopped/sliced. It was still amazing though. I will definitely keep going back!
Very busy atmosphere, added to the feel. Wife's ramen was good, mine was a little meh. Noodle were overcooked in mine, but overall it was a decent time. Definitely would recommend, and the Japanese pop was awesome.
Busy location be prepared to wait 30 mins for food. Very flavourful, ordered black goma, which was nice but once all the noodles and toppings were finished the broth alone was a bit much. My other half ordered Spicy goma which was balanced nicely flavour wise. Portions were large and it was cheap. Not my first choice for ramen but I can say I would try them out again.
Tried their spicy miso, aka kara and large chicken rice bowl. Liked their ramen soup but not a great fan of it. We went at almost closing hour but luckily we found a table immediately. Heard that their wait times would be long. The staff were friendly. Liked their service.
