Approximately six months ago, I purchased an Epson Workforce 435 printer from this location and the store manager was handling the transaction. I purchased the extended warranty because I have had a lot of trouble with printers in the past. The manager assured me that, with this warranty, I could return the printer at any time in the next 3 years if there were any problems. He assured me that I could just bring the printer into the store and they would either exchange it or refund my money.
Well, after I had the printer for about 4 months, the paper feeder stopped working and I took it back to the store. The store clerk who was working that day looked at my receipt and told me that the policy which I had purchased was not, in fact, an extended warranty but it was actually a service warranty. He told me that they couldn’t exchange the printer but they could send it away for service which would take about 2 weeks. I was understandably very upset about this as I was sold a policy which was entirely different than the one I was told that I had purchased. Also, I had some printing that absolutely needed to be done right away. I told the clerk that I was not going to accept these terms. The clerk phoned the store manager at home and the manager told the store clerk that he couldn’t do anything to help me. After the phone call ended, I asked the store clerk if he would call the manager back because I wanted to speak to him in person. The store clerk initiated that call. The store manager wouldn’t talk directly to me so we began a phone debate with the store clerk as the intermediate person. The owner finally agreed to the following solution: He said that he would exchange my printer for the store demo but there would be absolutely no warranty from that point onward. Because I needed a printer right away, I reluctantly agreed to this scenario but I was less that happy about the overall situation.
Not long after acquiring the store demo printer, I started having ink nozzle clogging problems. I essentially have to clean the nozzles after every 5 print jobs or so. In the end, I have been stuck with a poor quality printer which I will likely need to replace in the near future. The bottom line here is that the store manager lied to me about the warranty policy which he was selling to me.
