The Loaf - A place to meet, eat and drink. A brunch and dinner restaurant with great wine and craft BC beers.

Story

The Loaf has been growing and evolving for seven years, from a start-up in a miner’s cottage to a firm favourite in Fernie’s Downtown core.

Owners Phil & Claire Gadd have always designed The Loaf to be accessible and affordable, a neighbourhood restaurant where everyone is welcome and feels comfortable, no matter what the time of day. We have built a reputation for excellent food, made from scratch on the premises daily.

Now its time for some changes: updating the interior to make a more comfortable dining experience, extending the list of craft beers and offering more wines and liquor. We're creating an environment where the focus is on exceptional food, good company and a social dining experience.

“Our perfect wish for Fernie is a place with craft beers, a good solid wine list by the glass, pizzas, pasta, and some other nice mains, but nothing too fancy. And that’s exactly what we’re aiming to do at The Loaf.”

After a week of Canadian escape in the Fern, this place takes the award for best restaurant - and we basically did the in-town circuit. This pasta dish and soup were lights-out! Loaf Google reviews, unfortunately, had us coming in with some skepticism, which was quickly cast away by Aesha, who turned out to be a wonderful, difference-making server.
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff! Food was good. My friend had the French toast which looked super yummy and she said was tasty. I had pesto eggs on sour dough, which was also good but the bread was a bit too crispy for me.
Loved the live music and warm dining environment here. Their hand made pasta is delicious! Definitely worth trying. Lots of unique drinks to try too. Generous portion sizes to leave you satisfied.
Best meal we had in Fernie. Even the kids loved it and they are the toughest critics! Highly recommend this place. Pizza was amazing too.
Exceptional meal and fantastic service! Ate here three years ago on a trip to Fernie and ate here two nights in a row this trip. Should have made it three! The calamari was seriously delicious. I have a dairy allergy and really appreciated having the menu say DF or DFO so I knew what I could eat. We recommend earing here for anyone staying in Fernie!
I know, it's a bit lame to post a picture of your food. However, my meal was both a surprise and a treat. This was one of The Loafs daily specials, the Stromboli Puzza. I had expected a standard thin crust type of thing. What I got was ann awesome sort of a Calzone/Turnover hybrid. It was delicious. The Loaf is in downtown Fernie. Like so many towns in BC where the Highway 3 or 1 go through " The Strip"... do yourself a favour and get into the actual town. You get a very different feel and get gems like The Loaf!
The food and service were incredible! We had bruschetta best ever, a couple of different pastas the noodles are hand made! and the chocolate nemesis beautiful, rich flourless chocolate cake with a berry coulis and Chantilly cream and citrus crème brulée creamy, citrusy, and with a perfect caramelized top. All delicious! Friendly staff too. Good Covid protocols followed.
The food is great. We had meatballs and a garlic pizza, the portions were big and really tasty. Our sever was George, really nice guy! Highly recommend.
We visited The Loaf for fondue as a party of 9 on Dec 29th. To say it was a disappointment would be an understatement. It is a 4 course, set menu for $60. The cocktails and appetizers came out in a matter of minutes... then we proceeded to wait 90 minutes for our second course which, no kidding, was either tomato soup or a spinach salad. Literally nothing to prepare The fondue 3rd course was, as expected, gruyere and Swiss cheese but all the items to dip were cold .. including the meatballs and vegetables. Our upset was not with the wait staff, but with the management and how they handled the experience. They were fully aware that we were upset and that not only the timing was way off, but the food was embarrassingly ad, Never once did someone come and give anything other than lame excuses for the pathetic service and food. In the end, we were compensated on our bill for the all-around disappointing evening, but I can't in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone looking for an nice evening out The only reason I rated this 2 stars instead of one were the cocktails.
Awesome wait staff, incredible food, mouth watering deserts AND we went back again it was so good! Had pizza first night, hubs has fettuccine and meatballs. Dessert was cheesecake and Pana cotta! All made in house, just like the foccacia. Second night pesto Pollo fettuccine and roasted red pepper soup with same desserts. Best food and waitress in Fernie as far as we're concerned!! We are foodies and love good beer.
