The Washburn Inn

I had a wonderful experience at this inn. The staff were so kind. The room was clean and the flooring was updated. Air conditioner was a little loud, but I’m sensitive to noises. They also accept pets. I didn’t have mine with me, but appreciate this in accommodations. And it was fun to see all of the boats and free drink tickets. Also, no elevator to the 2nd floor. But I new the exercise so all is good. I can’t wait to go back.

The only breakfast item available is coffee. The rooms are in need of updating. Mold growing in the bathroom on the walls and tile. Furniture in the room was old and wobbly. Two of the electoral outlets didn't work. The staff isn't rude, but they're not friendly either. You almost feel like you are just in the way by being there. The best part of the hotel is the view of the marina.

The owners are very nice! The rooms could be a little cleaner. There were cobwebs around the picture hanging above the bed. The carpet in our room was a little scary, kept our shoes on!! The hotel is right by a marina, with lots of chairs. That was nice to sit & have a cocktail or a coffee there.

The Washburn Inn has a lot going for it! Friendly accommodating staff, beautiful location, well kept rooms and building, good coffee, and very comfy beds. Sure, it’s a bit dated, mainly the furniture, but they don’t purport to be new or updated either. Also, having nothing other than coffee for breakfast doesn’t make sense in 2023, at least throw out some packaged muffins or donuts for guests. Regardless, this would have been a pretty easy 5-star review, but they choose to use scented detergent for the sheets and towels, which my wife is allergic to. In the dozens of hotels we’ve stayed at in our travels, this has never been an issue, and its mind boggling that a place with the thoughtfulness to provide stevia in their coffee bar chooses to ignore potential guest sensitivities when it comes to their choice of laundry detergent. If this doesn’t bother you, this is a terrific place to stay, my wife’s allergies will not allow us to stay here again in the future.

When I booked this room I had an expectation of much better service than what we received. At over $200.00 a night it was mediocre at best. Their only offering was coffee. No daily service was given to straighten our room, empty waste baskets, or remake the bed. Also toiletries were sad. Management had a posting in our room that said there would be no service for the length of our stay for "our own protection to lessen the spread of COVID-19", but not a one of their Team Members we're wearing a mask! I can only assume that "no service" means more profit for them by reduction of employees. The only positive was the location of this motel on the waterfront. I could have booked a room at a cheap motel and gotten as much as I did here.

No frills, no breakfast, beds were too soft; morning backaches, coffee was the only real amenity. AC unit was undersized and extremely loud, the carpet felt damp. However, it was clean and staff were friendly/helpful. I would not choose to stay here again.

Very nice, Fantastic location. Poor workmanship shows causing hallway noises to be easily heard. See door images note light from all 4 sides. Up north construction ???Rooms: 2/5

Visitors beware! The staff will enter your room when you are not there. On the day of check out we decided to go for breakfast at 7am, since they don't offer a continental breakfast at this location. Check out is not until 11am! And on their website they specifically state to return your keys at the time of check out, to the desk, which we didn't do since we weren't checking out at that moment. We hadn't even been gone from the room for 5 minutes when I receive a call for a staff member stating that we left items in the room. Wait, what? We hadn't even checked out! We were only out for breakfast. Apparently at 7am the staff is watching your every move and as soon as you leave they go in your room to snoop around. Makes me wonder if they were in our room at any other times when we left the room. This left us feeling violated! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! If you do stay there don't leave anything of value in the room because it may not be safe from staff members!

This was one of the best non-chain hotels our family has stayed at! Great service, spacious rooms, incredibly clean, comfortable, and welcoming. We will be staying here every time we head to the lake.Rooms: 5/5

We happen to stay at this gem while vacationing Apostle islands and everything about this place was amazing. It's located right on the lake with stellar views of lake superior, enjoyed coffee sitting in one of the cute colorful chairs. Front desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay here again.Rooms: 5/5
