Story

Hydra Sandpoint’s Original Steakhouse is Sandpoint’s most popular dining establishment, providing customers with great food, a comfortable atmosphere and warm, friendly service since 1975. Even though the origin of its name still remains a mystery, The Hydra has made its mark in Sandpoint with its unique surroundings, complemented with art and beautiful cut glass works by local artists.

Some customer favorites include our whiskey rock oysters, Litehouse cheese curds, and of course, our famous Royalty Prime Rib, carved fresh from the roast and called the “Best in the Northwest”. We’re proud to keep the wonderful and eclectic history of Sandpoint alive at The Hydra with our distinct decorations. Had a party of 12. Reserved the back private room. I believe our waitress was named Leanne. She handed our larger group well, including our 3 year old crazy man of a son. I had the salad bar/soup. (pork and rice something or other) The salad is always fantastic! One suggestion : add some kind of meat to it, cubed ham, turkey or grilled chicken? I always recommend the Hydra to anyone who asks were to eat. Prime rib is to die for add the royalty. Great burgers! Kids menu good too. Keep it up!

My wife and I avoided this place for several years because it reminded us of the supper clubs of the Midwest. After hearing enough rave reviews, we finally came in. Now I feel stupid for not trying it out sooner. The salad bar is very good. This is the only place that I've found in Sandpoint where you can get crab legs. They were fantastic (and there was so much I could barely finish). And I've not had better steak in Idaho. Also, the burgers are some of the best in North Idaho. The staff is very good, and the decor, while a little dated seems to fit very well. Love it here.

We were really surprised by the quality of our food. When walking in the decor is very dated but it's cozy and almost vintage. The seafood Alfredo is outstanding. It was full of scallops, shrimp, and lobster in a clearly housemade sauce with fresh herbs. The salad bar is wonderful. Very few restaurants have salad bars anymore. If you miss this, be sure to visit here. My husband has had their steaks and crab legs and was very impressed by both. Hydra has been voted the best steakhouse in North Idaho and I believe it. Their desserts are truly sharing size. The chocolate cake is amazing.

Used to be by far my favorite place to get a steak / seafood dinner in Sandpoint. This last trip the food was very mediocre and the service absolutely horrible... I really hate giving this kind of review to what used to be my hometown favorite, but it is what it is!!! My wife and I decided to to give the Hydra another try... This time we walked out before we even got to order our food... The service was absolutely horrendous... It's really kind of sad, this used to be by far my favorite Steak/Seafood spot in the Sandpoint area

We called in 5 min till close got in to town late hadn't eaten all day traveling and Cheryl the manager gets on the phone and says you guys head over anyways. We get there at closing they seat us and the Maher and the server where amazing took the best care of us even though we kept them lat best prime rib I've ever had would recommend Hydra to everyone fantastic staff great food go above and beyond for you!!!!!
