This was my first experience with Cantonese food. One word to describe the experience would be mind blown, I tried 2 dishes 1. Ginger milk- was expecting a warm ginger flavoured milk, bit what I witnessed was magic, the server came in with a beautiful bowl with ginger juice in it, poured some hot milk and took out a timer and put it for five minutes. Voila, I had a ginger flavoured milk pudding. Ultimately delicious, perfect sweetness and not at all heavy. 2. Mango mango mini mochi+ice cream- To be honest I was skeptical about ordering because nothing made sense out of the menu to me, but a leap of faith and this dessert turned to be the next surprise for me. Overall, this experience will always be a memorable one for me and will encourage me to experiment more.
I brought my four-year-old here for some dessert. There is a sign saying each person order minimum one dessert per table. I read previous reviews and was concerned I would need to order a whole dessert for my child. She was reasonable and had no problem with us sharing. I really enjoyed what we ordered and shared. I will come back again.
This is the best Hong Kong style dessert I tried in greater Vancouver, egg pudding was smooth and tasty, the walnut paste was flavourful as well. Above average Chinese standard service. Extra discount for take out too.
small & cozy restaurant. Expect to wait for seats. There are only 6-8 tables inside. The desserts are exceptional ! Both hot and cold ones. The ginger and steam milk are excellent ! Made with real ingredients. They are comparable to the ones from Asia. We also liked their in-house tea, very fragrant. The flavors are on a rotation.
Super delicious classic Cantonese/Asian desserts. If you want anything grass jelly or mango Sago, this is the place to go! Good portions as well. They served us tea for free while we browsed the menu. I ordered M1 mango pomelo sago and added rainbow jelly toppings for an additional charge. My friend ordered M3 mango pomelo sago with mini mochi and hers came with rainbow jelly. Mine was delicious and I'm sure my friend would say the same about hers. That space is kind of small with limited seating so keep takeout as a back-up option. There is a charge if you use debit/credit and it seems they prefer to take cash. Also 10% off if you get takeout. If you dine in, each person at the table is required to order something so you won't be able to go for a date and share just one item as you would expect between two people.
Decent Chinese dessert with all the classics. Nice HK pop and movies playing in the background! Small seating area and limited to 1 hour dining.
Went here for almost last orders. So we had to do takeaways orders. But it’s amazing too. Very authentic Cantonese style dessert. Don’t feel over sugar level at all.
This is my second time to The First Dessert. We got the ginger hit milk, double steamed milk, taro red bean sago and Cheng fun steamed rice rolls. The ginger hit milk was not overly sweet but for some reason a little too watery. We waited the full alloted time but it just didn't solidify enough. We can tell they use organic ginger in their product as we use the same organic ginger at home. It tasted very gingery and spicy but the final product just wasn't creamy enough. The double steamed milk was not overly sweet but wasn't creamy enough again. Lacking in consistency for me The taro red bean sago was our favourite out of the three desserts. Very strong coconut flavour. But I felt like there wasn't enough red bean in it. Other than that, it's a good dessert. The rice roll with peanut and sweet sauce was pretty big. I liked that they give you a lot of sauce and you can ask for more. Overall: cute dessert spot on Victoria Drive. They have a huge menu and the service is nice. You need to scan a QR code to line up so if you don't have internet that may be an issue. The dessert can be a hit or miss but since the menu is so big you are bound to find something you like. Tip: they require you to order one dessert per person and they only take debit or cash
service quality is too poor. our group consisted of 9 adults and 2 kids and we ordered 7 servings but they didn't agree. They asked us to order 1 serving each even if 2 of us didn't want to eat. the food looks nice but it's not really tasty. i had a bad experience in this store and i will never come back nor recommend to my friends or relatives.
This place gets a lot of praise but I personally didn’t enjoy it. The level of sweetness overpowered the other flavours of the desserts. FYI, I see sugar/sweetness as complementary to and accentuates other flavours in a dessert and not the “star” of the dessert
