The Explorer Hotel

Virtually NO service at the front desk. Had an entire conversation about travelling with a pet the day prior with front desk staff and they still didn’t have a record of it, then asked if we were planning on bringing our older cat into the hotel it was -20 when we arrived mid day after that very brief discussion nothing else was said to us about the hotel, where to find anything, the restaurants….. nothing. It was here’s your key btw. Room was dated but at least it was large enough for our luggage as we were at the tail end of our cross country move and needed to organize. Sat on the bed and it made the worse noise we thought it was broken. Room looked clean until I got to the shower and it had a MASSIVE clump of black hair right on the wall, carpet was suspect not sure why anyone has carpets in hotels anymore Looked up reviews for the restaurants and decided not to eat at either. I did try and get plates and cutlery from the “fancier” one and stood in the door for 5 minutes without even being acknowledged so I went to the lounge and was greeted by a very tall male waiter who was lovely and accommodating I’m sorry I didn’t get his name. Stay was over all ok, elevators are very slow but luckily we were only on the 2nd floor. On checking out front desk person was very sick, not sure who forced him to work but not good. No designated smoking section so everyone is within a few feet of the front door smoking.

Room 888nIf you can, book this hotel. Great location at great prices. Stay there if for nothing else, the staff! From the minute you walk in until the minute you check out, you are treated with kindness and warmth. Everyone willing to help on any situation.nWe stayed here for 5 nights. We had the 2 room corner suite with balcony and a good view.  Beyond luxurious. It was definitely a comfortable place to unwind and relax after a long  day or night of watching the Aurora. High quality products in bathroom. Huge tube. Great shower. Big towels. Bed was comfy and sheets clean and soft. I highly recommend!

This has always been considered the premium hotel in Yellowknife and one has only to stay a night to understand why.nnI wanted to get a meal in the restaurant in the hotel, but they were so busy that they were only taking people who had reservations that evening. I was able to take advantage of breakfast the following morning, and it was very good. Service was exceptional!nnThe location is good because you're close to the center of Yellowknife and have ready access to different shops that you wish to visit. And it's not that long a walk to the Pilots Monument or other areas in Old Town.

This hotel uses false advertising to attract customers. They claim they provide transportation to and from the airport, I a confirm this ia false, on both trips they did not provide any help or information about their alleged “bus”. Front desk can br rude and treat customers very badly.

I booked a room 16 days in advance and had a confirmation email. When I arrived they told me that they didn’t have a room and I was asked to forward the confirmation email to them. I did so. They then told me to wait in the lobby for 3 1/2 hours for the manager to reply! I waited all night and by 9:45pm they told me that another hotel has a room and to walk in a direction. Not offered anything not even a taxi! Never again will I ever step foot in this hotel! So even if you have a confirmation email there is STILL no guarantee you will have a room!! I have never been treated like this by any hotel! Oh also the manager never showed up.
