I had a mixed experience. Check-in was quick, but the reception staff didn’t provide much information about where to find the room or any hotel amenities, simply handing me the key card without any further guidance.nnThe larger modern 1 Bed suites are quite a trek from the main entrance in a completely different building —almost a city block walk, which was a bit inconvenient. However, the room itself was spacious and well-cleaned, featuring a large fridge and washer/dryer. Unfortunately, the in-room safe was missing, and I had to wait for an engineer to bring a replacement. The beds were comfortable, though the room was consistently too chilly for my liking.nnHousekeeping was prompt and accommodating, responding to my request for extra towels without any issues. Overall, the experience felt very bare bones, fitting for a typical 3-star hotel. While there were some positives, I expected a bit more in terms of service and comfort.
The rooms were nice but we booked mainly because of the sauna and then it was closed for maintenance our entire stay. The staff consistently knew nothing, we called and the staff mentioned there was no shuttle to / from the airport there was, so we unnecessarily paid for a taxi then he said the sauna was closed because of the door handle, next guy said it was opened but then it wasn’t, next person said the hotel didn’t have a sauna lol.nnBut overall it was nice and warm, comfy beds and good enough. Amenities are lacking though!
It is a bit more rundown than I had expected. But then, it is rated 3 stars, so I should not be expecting too much. The good thing is our room has breakfast included. That made things easier for us with small kids and outside temp of -20C. Room was not really clean. The shower tub was clogged with ungodly hairballs that my wife reluctantly cleaned to clear the water from drowning our feet with dirty water when showering. Beds are too soft. Staffs are helpful, but the front desk and the restaurant are clearly being run separately. Cooperations between the 2 are not optimal. Location is good that it is walking distance to the grocery store. However, hotel explorer is closer. All in all, it is an ok stay. Next time, I would like to see if Explorer is any better.
How do I rate this hotel? I can't compare it to the Bellagio Vegas. But, this is supposedly one of the better hotels in Yellowknife.nnWe picked this hotel because it seemed the best amongst the 4 hotels with free airport shuttle. It truly was convenient. We also chose convenience over quality because Chateau Nova has a decent restaurant and bar. The beds and bathrooms were clean.nnBut I kindly giving it 4 stars, when it's 3.5 stars. The reason is because of my little pet peeves which didn't affect my stay, but shows lack of attention required for a higher rating: crooked pictures, water stains in rhe bathroom ceiling, ugly tile coving, and scratched up casegoods. The room doesn't even have a thermostat so the Hotel's central air controls your room temp.nnWhat I liked is the convenience of a restaurant and bar so that one doesn't have to leave the warm hotel to go out to dinner in the sub-zero temp. The food was very good one night, but below average on the 2nd night. Same with the service: the wait staff was excellent the first full day and not very good the following night. I will rate the restaurant separately. Let me finish with the hotel.nnNo, that's it. It met my expectations. My main purpose was to see the Aurora Borealis. Would I recommend this place? Yes, but warn others to keep their expectations realistic for Yellowknife, a small tourist town in the great NWT Northwest Territories.
My family and I have stayed at this hotel multiple times. The hotel is located very close to city center in a nice area of town. The rooms are also pretty spacious with required amenities. It also has free shuttles to and from the airport. The staff were very kind and I needed a cake delivered in one of the rooms. Muskaan took the order and Rocky personally got the cake and wrote a note as per my request and delivered it to the room. Thank you Muskaan and Rocky for being so prompt in your replies. Will definitely recommend this hotel.
