We've decided to visit this restaurant as the reviews have been amazing, however we didn't find it great at all. 1. Atmosphere - very outdated decor, small booths and cramped space. When we entered it was very busy, rustle and bustle of plates clanking and people talking. Then in the middle of the meal, music appeared. I guess they forgot to play the music from the beginning. The general vibe I got was of a cafeteria in a nursing home. 2. Staff - very friendly and knowledgeable. The man at the cash register operates an old version of it and calculates the change himself - I respect that but the annoying thing is paying at the front as opposed to them bringing the machine to you to the table. We had to wait to pay while they were trying to greet people coming in. The waitress was also very friendly and gave us the full description of specials and answered our questions. 3. Finally, most importantly, the food! Honestly, nothing mind-blowing. Yes, it was fresh and tasted decent BUT they didn't allow substitutions. Also, it was on the expensive side for what it is - $20 for a sandwich? Pass. Limited menu - only two pages and no description of the items. Portion sizes were okay, but for the price I expected something more. And most of all everything was veryyyy oily. For the tiny portion of the coleslaw I got, half of the condiment bowl was filled with olive oil no exaggeration. I guess that's why they're called "The Buttery". The fries were also saturated with oil, and the batter of my haddock was thin and insanely crispy. You could beat a thief with that fish, if you wanted to. The eggs Benny that we got was better, the sauce was creamier than usual I guess due to more butter in it. The potatoes were good but nothing extraordinary, just oily. Overall, we wouldn't go back, there are much better and healthier, budget-friendly options.
We stumbled across this restaurant looking to grab breakfast in Newmarket. The environment is clean, well organized and you can tell it's a well run establishment. The staff are super friendly, attentive and fun! Actually the chef and one waitress have been cooking and serving great food for 34 years at The Buttery. I've traveled the world and enjoyed eggs benedict in many international regions. The dish I experienced today topped them all and the flavors and egg consistency were spot on! Our coffee was never empty and our server was extra generous. Thanks for a great experience, it was appreciated !
Stopped in Newmarket. Google this restaurant. And the reviews are very accurate. Great food. The service is wonderful. Great atmosphere. Enjoyed dining in . Love the 80s feel. Breakfast was simple and delicious. Everything was perfect.
A very nice place with a family atmosphere and the food. Plates de jure usually very special and are recommended. The service is very pleasant and the food reminds you of the ones that your grandmother was cooking.
Great service, nice place : There's nothing vegan on the menu other than toast and potatoes but they gave me a ton of options and made a custom stir fry. They also do have almond milk for coffee and the bathroom smells like Fun Dip so this is an A+ in my booksFood: 5/5
Quiet and clean place with lovely/comfortable/classy environment. The food was delicious, a reasonable quantity, and a fair price. The waitress lady with dark hair was nice, polite, and attentive.
Was staying at the Best Western and though I would try this place for breakfast and was happy I did. Staff were super friendly and personable. Food was excellent both in taste and quantity. It was obvious it a regular spot for the locals. Would definitely recommend!!!
Absolutely phenomenal food, atmosphere! There was a group of four of us for first-aid training so we decided to do lunch here! They’re so incredibly kind and amazing food and very well priced food! Definitely will be back! Can’t express about how sweet and how it’s a hidden little gem!
I work in the Hotel and on my days off and anytime I stay at the hotel I come to the restaurant to have breakfast. Everything on the menu is amazing, and very large portions. The owners and staff are so friendly and make sure their guests are tended to and made to feel at home.
Excellent service from the chef, the host and the server. I indulged and ordered the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and it didn’t disappoint. I highly recommend this place as a breakfast destination.
