Perhaps this place is better on weekdays or for dinner, but my brunch experience here was absolutely terrible. After waiting for over 5 minutes. I had to ask couple times to get the server to finally come to the table to get our order. we were the only customer aside from another table that was already finished eating. Although we were the only customer waiting to be served, it took over 30minutes for our foods to come out. At most places small plates and knives would be provided along with a shareable dish, but that wasn't the case here. Taste wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't worth the price they charged. Their menus are creative but I feel like they need to get the taste down first. Coffee was too light and sweet. Felt like I was drinking coffee flavored milk rather than a real coffee.
I was so impressed with their holiday dinner. Great serving size. Perfect flavour and execution. The Turkey wasn’t dry. The sweet potatoes and stuffed potatoes were tender but not over cooked. Everything was nicely seasoned. Only complaint is they really should have provided more gravy. I would definitely recommend this meal for those who don’t have time to cook.
The restaurant was not big but feel cozy. the service was very excellent. The taro chips were very thin and so yummy. All food are very tasty. Strong recommendation: the mackerel fish was soft and yummy with dipping sauce. The chicken and pork were deep fried. If you like sweet, those dishes are right for you. Also kids loves them too. At the end, kid wants to eat vanilla ice cream! Overall, it was great visiting. Kid-friendliness: The food tastes sweeter, kids love it. Parking: Enough parking slots
This little gem was recommended by friends. To go and have a nice breakfast or brunch and I must say I was impressed. The food overall was portioned well, and the wait time was really decent. Service was quite fast and the server was genuinely nice, not like your typical, fake it with a smile. The reason a star off was because as nice as the atmosphere was. The plants that added to the decor was it's major flaw. Having plants is nice, but they also actually harbor flies, tiny flies. So just a word of advice at least spray the plants and you will have no tiny little flies. It wasn't bad, just like 2 or 3 . But enough to create a hilarious moment where our friend, badminton slapped one into his drink, and acquired more protein this morning. Nonetheless will be returning
We ordered 2 lunch set: Japanese Katsudon - curry a bit sour, probably they added too much vinegar - usually Japanese curry comes a bit sweet. Pork Knuckle with rice - Super good , totally out of expectation. Fried slice garlic bring up another level of port knuckle taste, mixed with sauce and rice, it’s perfect Staffs are busy, not so friendly and attentive. Hopefully they could improve this problem.
Great food and portions, with a beautiful patio for the summer. The Tanuki breakfast for brunch is my favorite out of the 4 dishes ee tried. Our server Rachel was so patient and friendly. They don't take brunch reservations for small groups so make sure to come early.
Pretty awesome Japanese restaurant!! Their Karaage tastes really good! With a touch of soy souse and sesame seeds brings the flavour to the next level. We tried Taro chips, Grilled veggies, Karaage as sides, Omurice, Curry, and fried ramen as main. Every dish tastes above expectation. The omurice is not using normal ketchup tomatosauce but uses mushrooms and chicken stew instead, the sauce is creamy and tasty, matching the soft eggs on the top. Another highlight is their Taro Chips!! You just can’t stop once you eat one chip!!!
We love Tanuki, despite it replacing the awesome Shiso Tree located in the J-Town plaza. I've been to this restaurant a few times and the food had always been delicious, service and staff been great. Having tried quite some dishes, I really enjoyed the Kaki Fry oysters and Kaeshi Karaage chicken for appetizers. As for entrees, my favourite would be the omurice.. the curry was not bad too. The place still has a similar vibe as the previous restuarant and in the summer, you can also sit at its patio area. During the most recent visit, my party had an awkward experience which led me to minus a star. Tanuki is a very welcoming place, but since that visit, I have to reconsider truly. That day, all the waitresses were wearing really short shirts and one was even wearing an activewear outfit you would wear to a hike/gym instead of something you wear while serving tables - workout crop top and tight yoga shorts where the outline of lady parts are showing! I find this very inappropriate for the job you aren't Hooters and when there are kids present, especially for a family friendly dining place. Hope this gets addressed with the owner soon or a one-off.
i really enjoyed the atmosphere the restaurant staff created. everyone was friendly, and it felt very cozy. everything tasted great, but the karaage was definitely my favourite. the portions are big and perfect to share.
Weekend lunch Croquet was huge size but maybe not enough for normal men daily portion. But Omurice portion was large. It was little salty side but not too bad. rice was more close to risotto texture than fried rice but that was fine with us. The food was served right time. Its not perfect but good to have a quick meal or drink while visiting J-town
