Tango Sur

Only plus about this place is it’s BYOB… Aside from that, Don’t bother complaining about your food you’ve received. All you’ll get is attitude and insulted. A group of us went here to celebrate 2 birthdays. One of the people celebrating their birthday received a steak that was so tough it was difficult to cut through the nerves/tendons running all through it! The server was so busy running around about 10 minutes later we were able to get his attention and inform him of the poor quality steak. He said “why didn’t you tell me earlier”… well, for one… “didn’t you ask stop to ask how our food was?!”… “were you even around?!”. NO!… he then brought it back to the kitchen and returned to the table to say, “ the chef was able to cut through it no problem”… LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Yeah, maybe with an extremely sharp chefs knife. This was beyond unprofessional and the worst service I’ve ever encountered! With an attitude and horrible customer service like that this place should not be in business! We turned down a replacement dish, paid our Bill and left! I absolutely refuse to return here and would never recommend it to anyone. If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen!

As soon as you walk in, you can tell this is a special spot! We did not have reservations I don’t believe they take reservations, but we arrived early enough in the evening we were able to be sat right away. The candlelit ambience, delicious smells, and attentive service, all made our experience wonderful. It is BYOB; the server will open your wine bottle if needed, and then you serve yourself. The food is delicious, large portions, all for a great value. I even took my takeout through airport security the next day, it was that good. Highly recommend for a special occasion, or just for a lovely meal.

Heard great reviews of this place and had great expectations. We gave it two tries with the most recent time being left disappointed by the way they cook their steak. We ordered a medium rare New York strip and a medium rare flap. Both were raw in the middle with the New York strip having no fat rendered. We went months ago and the same happened with our skirt steak with it coming out raw in the middle. Also, there was a 30% service charge for a group of 4 people to dine in with no mention whatsoever as to what it was for. I get making up for Covid but 30% really, why not just raise prices instead? Also, they still had a spot for tip on the receipt. I am confused, is the service charge not for the wait staff to be split among the bus boys, servers and maitre d? Overall, great expectation but bad delivery. One photo is of the leftovers we took home the other while it was on the plate, apologies in advanced for the terrible lighting.

This review is long overdue and wish I would’ve gotten a couple more pictures for them, but was too busy eating every thing in front of me. Tango Sur had been wildly recommended to me for years but finally made time to head there a couple months ago, and man was I missing out. This is without a doubt my favorite steak and grilled meats in the entire city. Incredibly fresh, great grill and char flavor, perfectly seasoned, it was perfect on all fronts. BYOB is great as it allows you to create your own experience which also helps the price of a night out here because without needing to account for a bottle of wine there, you get to just spend it all on their delicious food. Quality, taste and value is truly the best around and will continue to sing their praises to everyone as this place is a can’t miss.

First time at Tango Sur. First thing that got my attention was the dim lighting with candle lighting, great ambiance. Next was the Empanadas, had the beef and also the spinach and cheese, delicious. I had the the Bife Vesuvio, amazing flavor, steak was cooked perfectly medium and stuffed with spinach and cheese I will be back, definitely recommend.

The food, service and ambiance was amazing. We ordered the vacío and the berenjena salad, so fresh and so good. The place let’s you byob and won’t charge extra for it. Price per person is around $50

Tango Sur just made its way to my TOP 5 favorite steaks in Chicago list! What an absolutely incredible meal. The empanadas were so tasty. We got the beef. Crumbly buttery crust. Savory minced beef with spices. The shrimp dish was a little underwhelming and definitely felt overpriced, but it was flavorful as well. THE STEAK. THE SAUSAGE. I hate to sound like a broken record, but again, FLAVOR!!! The steak was so juicy and so was the sausage. That sausage is probably one of the best dishes in the entire city. The mashed potatoes are delicious too! 4stars because of the shrimp dish and because the cutlery here was so underwhelming. It felt like I was cutting the steak with a butter knife. Please Tango Sur…invest in better cutlery. Perfect perfect meal.

The food was definitely worth the price and the restaurant was super busy! The Lomo Relleno is what I ordered and it was good, but the meat was cooked unevenly and it was tough to chew in some parts. The service was good. The waiters and bussers were so sweet. I was disappointed with the food. the Vesuvio potatoes and the empanadas were soooooo good. But we went for the steak i ordered medium and it seemed more med rare. My friend ordered med well and got well done. The flavor was good and the little churraaco sauce was yummy i just think they’re not the best with the temperatures of the steaks. We were also able to bring our own wine which was nice.

Great food, great ambience, value for money. Had a lot of quality meat and aubergine salad was delicious. Portions are quite big so don't be too ambitious! Very glad that they open till 11. Will definitely go again.
