St-Viateur Bagel

About

Home of the World Famous Montreal Bagel!

Story

Established in 1957, we are Montréal’s longest running bagel shop. Made in an artisanal fashion, every Montréal bagel is hand rolled and boiled in a honey water mixture. Finally, the bagel is baked to perfection in our wood-burning oven giving it its distinctive flavor and golden brown color. Our landmark bakery operates 24/7. St-Viateur Bagel is proud to be a family business.

Made with 100% natural ingredients, our bagels contain no artificial preservatives. We have been making them the same way since 1957.

I came from afar to taste this bagel.nIt was so delicious. Great crust and chewy from inside. I tasted too the blueberries, apple cinnamon, and maple syrup. I liked them all, but blueberries ones were special. Good job .
The legendary bagel lives up to the hype. It is slightly crispy and and chewy/airy in the middle. Very tasty on its own or buy a side container of cream cheese and dip it in. You won't be able to have your bagel prepared in any way here. They won't cut it, spread, or give you veggies to put on it. But there are several refrigerators with prepacked spreads, pickled things, lox and drinks to purchase. It's all takeway only. If you want to sit down and eat you can't even do that there. Check out their bagel cafe in another neighborhood for that.
Prepare for a cue. It's popular. Real wood fired baked Montreal style bagels. They killed it in the bagels. The sandwich was another level. This took a NYC deli's crown Apologies I do like to mention other's restaurant's names in reviews. Enjoy!
St-Viateur Bagel is a must-stop in Montreal—and now I understand why locals call it the best. We dropped in after a recommendation and were lucky enough to visit while the oven was fired up and bagels were being made right in front of us.nnThis place isn’t new—it’s a Montreal institution. Open since 1957, it was founded by Myer Lewkowicz, a Holocaust survivor who brought the traditional hand-rolled, boiled, and wood-fired bagel to the city. That history is baked into every batch.nnWe both had the salt bagel—excellent. Think pretzel-bagel hybrid: chewy, golden, and packed with flavor. No sandwiches here and they post that clearly, but they do sell individual portions of butter and cream cheese, along with free wooden knives so you can eat on the go.nnNo frills, just tradition, pride, and perfect bagels. Well worth the visit.
Phenomenal bagels! As one of the original Montreal-style bagel shops, St. Viateur Bagel & Cafe is a must-see for folks who enjoy a good bagel or really any carb. The bagels are served piping hot and have the slightly sweet flavor so core to the Montreal-style bagel. They're quite a bit lighter and airier vs. the New York-style bagel, which I appreciate, and they're great with a sandwich, cream cheese, or just on their own. I tried their sesame bagel, and it was completely covered in sesame seeds. It's also really fun that you can see their whole operation from the cash register -- the kitchen is totally open, so you can see the staff mix the batter, shape the bagels, and pop them in the oven.
