My husband and I decided to give Southern Flavours a try because I was craving a dosa and it's close to home. We walked in just after lunch and were greeted by a very friendly man. We ordered butter chicken, their incredible bread not naan, much better!!, A masala dosa, rice, and a spinach cheese dish. Everything was top notch. We ended up ordering more bread to take home to our kids it's that good!!. We loved the food so much, we will definitely be back very soon. Their butter chicken is the best in town and reminds us of the one we used to have at Haveli in Ottawa and couldn't find since. Highly recommend!
If there is zero rating I would prefer to rate this restaurant zero. We ordered vada, poori, Chole Bhatura and Madras tiffin. Not even a single item was good. Puri was so thick and it was clear the atta was not even kneaded same day. Vada was sour as the batter seems not fresh. Chutney and Sambar were the worst. Even a home maker learning to cook makes better tiffins than here. I told the same comments to the serving lady working here and she apologized for that and no reaction. Attaching a pic as a proof that I went and ate there else they will reply I didn’t even come there. Bcoz in all previous worst ratings they replied same and never admitted their fault. So better eat a pizza or burger than having food from here. It is ‘Southern Flavours’ with ‘no flavour’ there Reply to your answer: Shame on you..our table was so neat..even with 2 kids we didn’t spill anything on the table. In such case you could have posted the table pic. do you expect customers to wash the plates bcoz only that was supposed to be done to keep the table clean from my end. Good you reminded me about seating..yes I asked for table change but I was not concerned abt that and so accepted where your server told to sit. We were really not frustrated about that. But she said 15 mins wait time as you are managing with only one chef.. so you made us wait for 1 hr but still we were fine with it. But after tasting vada and poori I really started reading the reviews of your restaurants. I understand an unethical person is running the restaurant to make some money by cheating people. Why are you unable to answer about the poori.. bcoz the pic itself says all. I really feel ashamed after coming across people like you and I pity the customers coming to your restaurant bcoz you can just blame them for nothing if they speak truth. All the best bcoz soon your restaurant may be closed as you can’t cheat ppl always. Reply to ur comments: You made us wait for 1hr to get the order so we didn’t had any other option to go anywhere at that time. By the time I decided to rate you guys I had only poori and curries left. We didn’t touch any chutney bcoz it was tasting so bad. So sorry for taking only poori pic. And who expected a discount from you ? We are not such kind of ppl. We love to eat good food that’s all for that we never count on money. You pls go to Biryani Palce in Victoria. You will know how food is made with flavours and how their hospitality is. I read all your replies to the bad ratings. You are blaming the customers..pls remember if you don’t have customers business will not run. So try to correct the faults from your side. And you mentioned I am not a good customer bcoz I give 1stars. Yes I gave five 1 star ratings and twelve 4 and 5 star ratings. So can someone help me understand your logic. Note: If someone is planning to go to this restaurant pls take pics of each item you order and don’t forget to take the table pic after your dining is complete. Otherwise they will say we don’t have table manners. Reply: 1st thing I didn’t ask you a refund or discount pls don’t get this point again bcoz if you start refunding your refund amount will be atleast half of your billing amount. So pls don’t think to do that. 2nd ly you are talking without any logic. Let me make you clear. We go to movie and if didn’t like it we will not come in middle right. Similarly even though the food was not at all good not only me any customer will finish it or leave some. So we left poori, sambar 2 cups, aloo curry 2 cups, chutney also 2 cups. Since we didn’t had lunch that day and were too hungry we ended up eating. Yes we ordered poori again bcoz my kids were hungry and they didn’t like any other items we had to make them eat. We came to Victoria for a short trip. So we can’t take a chance to keep the kids hungry right. And you try to understand the diff b/w enjoying the food and eating the food. We just ate the food not enjoyed at all even 1%.To give you more clarity ppl wont rate for discounts or refunds. Pls chk the way you apologize to customers. I read all your apologizes.

The best South Indian food, must try the varieties of dosa. Best service , kids friendly atmosphere Must try the fish curry too it’s so yummy.
Kottayam fish curry was choice. Pleasantly spicy and rich white fish. Definitely get one of the 'southern special' offerings if you come here. Sets it apart from the other Indian places in town. Mango lassi was delicious, too. Got some chunks, almost like bubble tea.
Fantastic, authentic, delicious South Indian food. Service was friendly and helpful. We had the biryani and coconut shrimp curry. We could have easily split just one of these entrees; there was so much food for good prices. The biryani was full of delicious spices, the chicken buried in it was juicy and tender, and the sauces on the side carried the dish to the next level. The curry was similarly amazing. The curry itself was well seasoned- spicy but not overpowering and delightfully flavorful- and there were lots of shrimp cooked to perfection. The side of rice was slightly more oily than I expected but paired with the curry nicely.
The best south indian food in victoria, very friendly staff. The food feels very special almost like having a homemade meal. I feel like each meal is made for me. The food just doesnt fill our stomachs, but our hearts too. The tea is amazing. I love the entire ambience of the place, but the food has a special feel in my heart. This place has proved that food is a emotion to me.p
Guys, please sort out your phone message. Twice I have tried to come to lunch with my wife. The first time you were closed and the Google listing of your opening hours was plainly wrong. The second time this week I got smart and called first and got a phone message saying you were open but just too busy to answer the phone. Drove over. Closed again. Please at least straighten out your opening hours on your phone message and maybe I can try again some time. Update: I appreciate the prompt response to the initial "review". I am very sympathetic - it must be extremely difficult running a restaurant in the current environment. Assuming you are able to still open on a limited basis, perhaps you would like to state your modified hours here so supportive customers can do their best to come support you?
We've been here twice this week alone.. had chicken biriynai and beef biriyani. Both very good .. very flavourful. You can have the rice on its own its such good flavor. Mango lasi and Chai - both very good.
Love the Southern Flavours 2.0 food. They’re improved way better now and enjoying their South Indian food. My favourites are their Kerala Parotta, Madras Chicken fry and chicken biryani.
