Ordered clams, shrimp, squid, and snow crab legs via Skip the Dishes for Mother's Day. We ordered their Hala Cajun sauce with everything. The food was fresh, delicious and very generous. The whole family loved it, and my gf's parents were very much impressed by it. The only real critiques I would make are that the shrimp poked holes in the bag they were brought in, so it ended up leaking over our counters, and the sauce was delicious, but more Asian flavor than Cajun. Other than that, we would definitely order again!
Had the Seafood Platter from Groupon and can definitely say it's not worth it at all. Food is 100% bland just like all the other reviews say. The "saucy pasta" tastes like it isn't even boiled in salt water and doesn't taste like anything. There isn't enough seafood for the price. The food came out cold and we had to wait for it to heat up with the table top warmers. Even though it was cold, you can tell the food was cooked early in advance because it tastes cold and overcooked
We were a party of 5. We arrived past 9pm and ate until around 10:30pm. They usually close at 10 so we really appreciate them opening late for us. The restaurant was clean and tidy. We had the seafood platter and it was really good. I thoroughly enjoyed that. Deep fried oysters were good too so we ordered seconds. Deep fried mushroom and calamari lacked some seasoning so we had to get more salt. Overall the service was friendly but alright. The server didn’t come to check on us very much so we had to walk to the bar and get his attention when we needed things. I guess they were preoccupied with closing procedures. I wish their ice water can come in a big glass instead of a little tea cup. Overall a good experience. Would go again in the future.
AVOID!!! Where to start... Let's give you the full run down from the time we arrived. We entered from Hastings Street and the very first thing you notice is the amount of dirt and garbage on the floor as you open the door. You look like you're entering someone's house that has never seen a proper cleaning. Service was slow and the place was only 1/4 full. Took about 30 minutes just to get drinks while their dining room was more like a steam room with no a/c. We got yam fries to start which were undercooked and over seasoned to the point of being not edible. The seafood was a small portion, and didn't look very appetizing. We were hoping for that "Crab Pot" like experience from Seattle, but ended up with the East Hastings special that we both regretted. The washroom had no paper towels, no toiler paper, and a giant cracked mirror that looked like a lawsuit waiting to happen. As I went to go pay our bill, I peeked into the kitchen area. I wish I didn't. Why has the food inspector not shut this place down? We both left feeling uneasy. Needless to say, we will not be returning, and warning as many people to do the same! if you found my review helpful, smash the like button! Thanks!
Typically one of the feast item on the menu is ordered where a variety of seafoods and vegetables are cooked together then everything is dumped onto the table in front of you and everyone just digs in with their hands. The food was kind of bland. We were told the lobster rolls were sold out because there weren’t any buns left. The restaurant itself is small and dark and empty. There are better restaurants that does this ‘eat off the table’ concept.
The food was okay. Had the boil with crab. Boil was thrown on the table and plastic gloves were provided with a mallet and wooden board for crabs. Seafood was fresh but did not like the seasoning; it had creme in it. Would rather have simple seasoning salt and cayenne pepper. Corn was really good and sweet. Potato needed salt. Parking avail in the back and the waitresses were attentive.
I wasn't sure about the place until I actually tried the food. It's FRESH SEAFOOD : Price is decent and food is fresh. We tried combo for two a crab with shrimps clams and mussels with lemon pepper sauce yum . I'm going back to try the shrimps next time. I love fresh seafood : !!
So Crab So Good was okay ... I've definitely had better experiences. However the price was good and there was a lot of mussels and clams in the 2 orders we got. The garlic butter sauce was delicious - it tasted great on the pasta. I do understand that this isn't a traditional Creole/Cajun shrimp boil but having pasta in there was kinda strange. Delicious but strange. I loved the addition of the steamed veggies. I'd rate this a 4 except for one thing - water. I get that restaurants are there to make money. However when I've already ordered a $2 can of pop - I'm not going to order another one. And the fact that there was no water available on the table or when we requested it we got small tea sized cups half full of water ... I just don't understand. Yes, water would have given this place 4 out of 5 stars.
We ordered from skip for 2lbs of shrimp, 1lb of mussel and 1 side of sweet corn. When it arrived it was quite a bit of food but perfect for 2 people. I didn't know what to think of the creamy pasta sauce style with the seafood but it actually was not a bad combination. I think all their sauces are like that. The grilled sweet corn was really good. The mussels were just ok, and my husband really liked the shrimp. It's not the best seafood we've had, but since they're the only restaurant on skip that offers this style of seafood it will do in a pinch.
My friends absolutely love this place, but it just wasn't for me. I didn't find the food very flavorful or well prepared, and presentation left a lot to be desired, even though we got the all dressed delux king pots I cannot recall the exact title but it was supposed to be the best one. The seafood pots are mostly just fillers: of potato, that is overcooked; and pasta, that is underwhelming; some over cooked corn on the cob, and very little actual seafood or sausage. We ordered three pots and didn't even have half a sausage between them. It's incredibly messy and the food is spilled out on the table and it's a free-for-all, grab food with your hands kinda deal. I really disliked having to eat with my hands, especially really hot food, and the gloves and serviettes provided are inadequate for the task at hand. I found the restaurant cramped, the seats hard, and over all it was dirty, dingy and sticky, although the service was okay. Nothing about it gave me confidence that the food was fresh or handled with any care. If the front of house looked like this I'd hate to see the kitchen or bathrooms. I know my friends continue to enjoy this place but I will not be going back.
