We had a great time, the park host was a sweetheart. Can't wait to go back.

As a Scoutmaster for a Humboldt County Boy Scout Troop, we have used Sarah Totten Campground as a put-in on three separate Troop river rafting trips over the last 5 years. Nothing fancy, just basic campsites, some more desirable than others, and usually lightly occupied (not much to see in Hamburg...) but we typically use the sites closest to the river access ramp (sand/gravel), as we tend to arrive late afternoon and leave the following mid-AM. There are trees that are spaced nicely and not overgrown in poison oak or other flora that allow for hammock-hangers (no other place along our 60-mile/ 5-night trips to just below Dillon Creek take-out point are adequately treed or tree-accessible for hammocks). The potable water supply here tastes okay and not all chem-tasty. The camp hosts have allowed us to park near their site for vehicle security. Pit toilet facilities are well-kept. Dumpsters for trash on-site. Works for us--we'll be back again...

This campground has a split personality. We thrashed around a small number of unattractive, exposed, hot or occupied campsites looking for what seemed to be missing ones. The main entrance has sites 6 - 12, the self pay station, the boat ramp (Klamath River) and the campground host. Just as we were about to give up, a fellow camper took pity and clued us in to the separate entrance with sites 1-5: shady, tree-lined, deserted and beautiful. Thanks to her we enjoyed a quiet and lovely evening with easy walking access to a nice section of river. So, if you don't find what you are looking for here, get back on the highway and head west a few hundred yards to the separate entrance.
