Royal Coachman

We have attended the Coachman a few times. Tonight my dinner choice was fried chicken, mashed and coleslaw. The carrots, corn and potatoes were good. Coleslaw was delicious, very creamy. I was not fond of the chicken. Found it to be burning one side and mushy inside. My hubby ordered fish and chips. Chips were done to perfection. He was not fond of the food sh as the batter was a little undercooked inside. All in all service was good and meal came quickly.

I have been here twice and each time the food is absolutely delicious! Their outdoor patio is my favourite! The flowers are beautiful and the high top Maskoka tables are extremely comfortable. Parking is suffice in the back lot. I love the variety of their menu. It’s not cheap, but it is worth it. My husband is hard to impress and he loved his meal mushroom and Swiss burger.

Great vibe. Sit outside, order beer cocktails and the home baked chips can't remember what they called them, just ask for those. They are beyond good. There's proper food too but we just kept getting more chips. Good night!

Date of Visit: Sunday, March 3rd, 2024 and Many other visitsnnIf you have never been to the Royal Coachman, you really need to go.nWe visit quite often - in the area of once every 2 months.nIt is a favourite place for us because it is a convenient meeting place for us to enjoy dinner between Guelph and Hamilton, and the food is always on point.nnI have become addicted to one meal in particular - Their fried chicken sandwich.nI have had fried chicken sandwiches in many places - pubs, shacks, better restaurants, food carts, etc. and hands down my favourite is the fried chicken sandwich at the Royal Coachman.nThey shove 2 huge pieces of fried chicken on a a bun, smother it in their hot honey sauce, toss on creamy coleslaw, and serve it with a huge mound of fries.nThe chicken is perfectly cooked, and while I rarely comment on coleslaw - they have found a way to make coleslaw noteworthy. I always ask for extra honey sauce because it is SOO good, and seriously - there is so much chicken - it needs deserves more.nnWhile the chicken sandwich is my go to menu item - let it be known that this is not the only amazing thing on the menu.nI had the grilled chicken club sandwich on marble rye and it was so good. They load it up with greens, delicious aioli, and veg. The chicken is the Star - beautifully seasons, flavoured and cooked, but dont forget the 4 HUGE slabs of thick cut bacon that is on the sandwich as well.nnTheir fish & chips are delightful - and fresh - and I highly recommend their Pot Pies.nThey offer a rotating option of Pot pies - sometimes curry, turkey, chicken, etc - and when you are there - ask the server about the pot pie flavour. The crust is flaky, delicious, and light. You will not be disappointed.nnthey have a full bar - with a great selection of beers, and cocktails.nin the summer - they have their outdoor patio - which is a beautiful oasis. The trees provide shade and coverage even from rain - which we ate in a few timesnThe Patio is an extremely popular spot.nnThe prices at the Royal Coachman are very reasonable - very affordable.nnThe service is always impeccable - the servers are always friendly, pleasant, attentive, and helpful.

I’ve been here multiple times. Mainly with my wife and son and but also with a couple buddies. Every time I come to the patio with my wife and son service is never really that great. But today was the worst. To be honest I’ve never felt so unwanted in an establishment. I was seated right away while my wife changed our son in the car. 20 minutes goes by with me trying to get someone’s attention without being rude- a waitress comes by and says someone will be with us shortly. No apology, or anything. To be honest it was kind of rude. Clearly they knew we were sitting there unattended for a while. 5 minutes after that a waitress comes by and serves us. She did her job to the bare minimum I’d say. Wasn’t very friendly, no apologies added for our long wait, we literally felt like a burden the entire time we were there. I’ve come later at night with my buddies and everything is fine, but I come during the day with my wife and 9 month old son and we’re treated like bottom tier. I don’t understand it. Everyone else around us had no problem receiving what seemed like good service. What should’ve been my wife and I having a good time out on a patio turned to be a downer of a time cut short.
