Riviera Resort

Stayed here one night in Sept 2017, and do not recommend it. Upon entering, the dirty carpets are noted. There is but one way in and out of the room, which was lacking a smoke detector and had not been made up since last use. All manner of furnishings were piled into the restaurant area. There was only one other guest, who was obviously up all night. While it was probably a very nice place years ago, it is simply awful at present.

I rented a two bedroom cottage and we stayed 6 of the 7 days we rented for only because there are no refund offered of our deposit for any reason. I found the place online and booked my stay from North Carolina unseen from the owner. There are no pictures shown on their web site of the interior of the cottages and I think I now know why. Very dated, worn out decor with old uncomfortable beds Other than kitchen chairs the collapsing sofa was the only seating provided in the cottage. Dusty walls in the bedrooms and campers have larger showers than the shower in our cottage. If the fore mentioned issues were not enough to make for a bad vacation, the place is out of touch with the twenty first century. No Wifi unless you sit on the front porch near the office door. The young couple managing the property are very nice and accommodating. The nice view of the lake is the only positive I can say this place has at this time. Hopefully the new owners will get this place up to par soon.

I've always had a great time when I've stayed here. Generally my family and I come here every year. The staff has always been kind and helpful, the grounds are nice and right on the water. Since there's usually a group of four of us we like to stay in the larger rooms, apartments or cabins so that everyone has space. All of which that we've stayed in are well kept. Some of the decor and furniture is dated but it is clean, safe and functional. The restaurant is great for grabbing a bite to eat in a quiet environment while getting to look at the lake. Sometimes they have live music. Last time we were there, the musician who was playing was very talented and very kind. Overall I would recommend this place to stay if you're looking for affordable, clean, quiet accommodations on Houghton lake.

As the previous owners of the Riviera Resort since 1959, we would like to thank all our guests for their patronage for the last 57 wonderful years. It has been a pleasure accommodating local customers to customers from around the world! As of July 21, 2016 the Riviera Resort was sold and purchased by a new family.
