A getaway in the middle of the city, the award winning River Café, located on Prince’s Island Park, serves contemporary seasonal Canadian cuisine.

Story

We are dedicated to sourcing the best tasting local ingredients in season. We connect directly with growers and producers at their farms, gardens and ranches, and carefully choose those purveyors who are responsible stewards of the land. We support and honor the connection to these farms by always identifying the provenance of our ingredients on menu.

Our style of cuisine is rooted in honouring simple quality ingredients. These whole foods are transformed by the artistry and innovation of our accomplished culinary team. At the heart of our kitchen is our orchard wood burning grill and oven.

Chefs and sous chefs practice artisanal techniques; we butcher, brine, cure and smoke by tradition, and add to that a contemporary approach and sensibility. The culinary experience is a journey through our region and through time, a taste of place.

One of the best....as a frequent visitor to Calgary, I have tried pretty much all the higher end restaurants downtown. You can't beat RC for the excellent ambiance, food and location. It is a converted concession stand, but you would never know it. It is very nicely finished inside...I've had the duck, chicken and a few beer entrees and have thoroughly enjoyed each one. I stay at the Sheraton and it is a 5 minute walk down the Bow. Do yourself a favor and dine here.

River cafe is definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Calgary. The atmosphere is beyond compare! Canadian fine dinning in a really unique setting with outstanding service. Can't remember what I ate there last time but it is always amazing.

Mmm. First of all it is one of the best places to propose, the atmosphere is magical(For me at least). Wooden fire place wooden chairs, high class and unique in taste food. We ordered appetizer, it was Mushroom Puree and it is mouthwatering. The main course was fish and the other one is beef. For here I would say Second of all, the fish was tasty but I felt it average. What I mean, This place can really offer a very different experience in food but for the available fish dish, not really the one you want to try. Now for the beef one, the waitress explained to us that it is grass raised and for that it should be medium cooked but if you are not into really in rare to medium cooked you shouldn't ask for this one. It was rare to me, I tried to chew and I found it hard, I asked if they can do it again and they did, how ever the result still the same. The waitress were handy, he offered anything I want and said we just could cancel the plate for the inconvenience, we ordered desert and coffee and they said it is complementary because I end up without dinner after all. What disappointed me when the bill came we found out the complementary thing was because they didn't take out what I cancelled, they said the system cannot do that!!! They packed for us ! We paid full price for something we didn't eat or enjoy and for me I felt It was not nice. Overall, they nice and friendly. Be more caution and ask if you dout something, This is my advise.

Authentic dining for sure. On Prince’s Island Park which has waking access only, this restaurant is great. Great selection of drinks and wines and the Wild Boar loin is a must. My wife had the beef loin which was tasty but quite chewy. Otherwise 5 stars. Price was a bit high for chewy meat. The Boar was very tender. Eclectic environment!

Food was amazing. Appetizer to desert was very very impressive. The knowledge of the staff was very helpful. Really great service. Loved the cozy atmosphere.
