Raw Food Calgary

We just moved to Calgary from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and were searching for new raw food for my two pups! I did my homework and even consulted my old raw food company in Halifax they really know their stuff to screen some of the raw food companies in Calgary so I know I was getting a quality of raw food comparable to back home. I am delighted to say that Back to Basics Raw was their number one choice for our dogs! I reached out to Back to Basics to inquire for further information on where they source their meat, etc. and they were super responsive, transparent, and helpful in getting us set up with a new routine. A HUGE plus, I can really tell that this company put a lot of work into their website. As a User Experience designer myself, it makes the online shopping experience so much better! I have to say, some websites of raw food companies across the city are terrible.. which makes it super hard to shop. Back to Basic's website honestly trumps them all! The only area of improvement for Back to Basic would be to include more supplements, raw meaty bones, and pure dehydrated treats as I find I am venturing to other stores. Otherwise, I'm super impressed! The quality, prices, and customer service of Back to Basics raw are unbeatable. My family highly recommends Back to Basics Raw. It's an excellent option in Calgary and will be my go-to from now on!

After struggling with food and environmental allergies, my borderxpitt's health went from okay to incredible almost overnight - that was two years ago. Our newest addition started on Raw when he was around 7 months and is now just over a year. Their coats are brilliantly shiny and soft and get compliments everywhere they go. They have strong and consistent energy levels. Their vets rave about how nice their teeth are and how healthy they are overall. The complete meals are perfectly balanced and all the little extra tibits you can get like chicken necks and whole herring our "house favorite" are always well packed, clean and such an easy way to keep tons of variety and targeted special nutritional needs in their individual diets. I've tried other "complete raw" meals and have had issues with the feeding recommendations being too low even when rounding up weights for very active dogs - resulting in having to add more food than usual. Back to Basics is consistent all-around with customer service, quality and value <3

My dog loves the lamb neck chops The chicken and beef 3lb tubes are worthy he likes them but not more then the 2lb tubes of balancers, I give those twice a week! Great place for raw diet. I must say that if you try for your dog raw and he won’t eat it, don’t worry , you can cook it and serve it to him rather then throwing it away. Their meat can be cooked unlike some other dog food makers have a very bad mix and can’t be cooked.

Excellent quality and customer service. When thawed it doesn't release tons of water and the bones are not overly fatty, both of which I have encountered elsewhere. It's clear the owners have put lots of thought into their formulas and taken the time to source their ingredients responsibly. In particular I love the flexibility the bones + balancer option gives - I don't have to think much to balance the food, it's very convenient. I've also found it to be the best place for rare proteins in a balanced meal. While you pay a bit for the quality, it is still not overly expensive, especially compared to some large commercial producers. Additionally, the owners willing hand out tons of information and experience. Overall, we are very satisfied customers!

Love this business! The food quality is excellent and my dog and cat love the food! I really love that they use nutrition software and lab testing to ensure the food meets nutritional requirements. I will happily buy my raw pet food from them

Back to Basics Raw Pet Food is amazing! Both my pooches love the raw dog food. The pricing is amazing and delivery of bulk orders straight to the house makes it very convenient. There reward program for returning customers is also a nice touch. My first visit to the location the store was under an upgrade/construction. The friendly staff came outside and shared tons of information about raw dog food and there process. I was afraid that I was going to have to leave without raw dog food as I did not order before hand. The staff member that day went into the store and supplied me with everything I needed to get started. I left a very happy costumer and would highly recommend this to anyone looking to try raw dog food.

LOVE this store! I love this store so much I drive 4 hours one way to buy my cats their food. Please open a store in Edmonton. lol

Fantastic company, and the food quality is even better! I can't believe I haven't reviewed this before. I have been using Back to Basics for over 3 years. I have 2 French Bulldogs and they were having massive allergy issues, leaky eyes and skin issues one of them even had seasonal alopecia. I tried about a dozen high end kibbles and they all failed. I did some heavy research and decided to switch to raw. The meatballs love the food, and look extremely healthy. Their coats are smooth and shiny, and their teeth are bright white. I should also mention that they also leaned right out, it's quite amazing. Fabulous company! Don't buy from the pets store it's way overpriced, and I love that I'm supporting local!! I have been using Back to Basics Raw Pet Food for the last 5 years for my dogs. Having some of the top performance dogs in Canada, proper nutrition is of utmost importance. Becky and Kristi are responsible, knowledgeable and a delight to deal with. They have helped me with nutrition and supplement counseling to keep my dogs in top shape. I have personally toured their facility and it is immaculately clean and organized. Additionally, I have referred numerous of my own dog clients to use Back to Basics, and EVERY single one has loved the differences in their dogs switching to this company and had exceptionally pleasant dealings with the staff.
