Story

The Calgary Food Bank distributes healthy emergency food to individuals, families and the agencies that serve them.

Individuals and families in temporary emergency situations may request up to three hampers in a 12 month period; four more may be accessed with a referral from a community agency.

The first step is to call the Hamper Request Line at 403-253-2055.

We follow Canada's Food Guide to ensure balanced nutritional content. Each emergency hamper contains 7 days of groceries for each person in the household.

This one of the most amazing organization. They give and provide you with the assistance you needed most in times of difficulty. From grocery hamper to infant essentials and a lot more.
Very good experience at the Calgary Food Bank. We went there for the first time today. Got there about 5mins early, which seemed to have been perfect for timing. Was pleasantly greeted. Was well guided in the process. And was extremely happy & grateful for the hamper we received. Anything and everything helps Thank you guys so much.
Most of the staff were friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, my experience with one staff member in the income verification department was the complete opposite. She clearly did not understand the process, kept asking unnecessary and basic questions, and seemed unprepared for the role. When errors were pointed out, she refused to acknowledge them or correct them.nnThe interaction was frustrating and felt like a waste of time. This level of service is unacceptable, and proper training and oversight are clearly needed.
Today, date at 4 pm I recently visited the food bank and unfortunately had a negative experience with a volunteer named Chris and the security guard on duty. I understand that volunteering and security work can be stressful, but I felt that both individuals were dismissive and unprofessional in their interactions.nnChris was not very welcoming and seemed impatient when I asked questions about the process. The security guard also spoke in a tone that felt unnecessarily harsh. As someone accessing community support, it can already be difficult, and kindness and respect go a long way.nnI hope the organization can remind staff and volunteers about the importance of compassion and professionalism when serving vulnerable community members.
I wanted to write a review for volunteers and these places to be there to help people who are in need. you are awesome, even on cold days you are there to pick up food and push carts for everyone. I want to say thank you.nI have a comment to those who are picking... you are giving so much of one thing that will expire in next days example. 5 yogurts, or 5 cottage cottages.
