The interior is kinda small and nothing noteworthy in terms of decor and ambience. However, I consider this restaurant a hidden gem as the food was flavorful and reasonably priced for the generous portions. Lamb biryani was only $13.99 here compared to $18-23 that I usually pay at other Indian restaurants in Ottawa. Minus a star for only offering single-use plastic cutlery and non reusable plates/bowls despite dining in.
Loved our experience at Punjabi Canteen. The food was wonderful and even better than we expected. The service was also lovely. The chicken tikka, veggie pakoras and masala chai were outstanding. The prices were also very reasonable. Highly recommend!
Nice restaurant with a good variety of food options. Great for vegetarians as the menu offers a wide range of options. As the name suggests, it is a canteen style restaurant, but still a great place for dine-in or take-out. Also decent prices for the portion sizes!
Plenty of parking in the area. Inside is pretty dated, no thrills but I'm not here for the decor. Make sure you call ahead of time if your doing take out. Right next to Tim Hortons also if your in the area. I had the chicken tikka, chicken manchurian and mango lassi. Mango lassi as usual, always amazing and a must try item if you've never tried it. The chicken manchurian with gravy was okay. It was way to soggy, they probably need to fry it more. The sauce was great though. Chicken Tikka was not to bad either. In terms of quality, I've had way better. Their prices are great for the quality of food you are getting. I would definitely be returning. I'll be trying 5 to 10 more dishes and will update my review.
This place is good but their chole could better, very oily but not much flavour. Samosa chaat and bature were great. Paneer butter masala was exactly like you could eat in a college canteen- JUST OKAY. I would say chole Bature were 3.5/5 in my opinion. Paneer butter masala was 3.5/5. Samosa chaat was 5/5! The prices on DoorDash not sure if it’s because it’s on delivery app seemed to be at par with any other restaurant in Ottawa- meaning expensive. I would order their samosa chaat again probably not the other items
We went and ordered chole bhature and Amritsari kulcha but was kinda disappointed… it was okayish in taste and presentation No chutni and raita provided along with chole bhature as I have had at other places in Ottawa Also ordered masala chai… that was amazing
The top highlights of this restaurant are: 1. Lots of choices on their Menu 2. Very reasonably priced 3. Tastes great and good portions. The food here has a homely taste and hence one does not get a overly full feeling. Personally, I would definitely visit again!!
Must try canteen. Chole bhature is a must-try. Authentic Punjabi food. Highly recommended. Great food !!! Reasonable price and convenient for the students. Keep up the work team
What a hidden gem! The food is amazing! Lots of delicious curry options to choose from - can't wait to come back! Super unique desserts too. Wonderful gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian options, in case you have restrictions. Highly recommended!Food: 5/5
