Place was spacious, clean, and lots of old pictures and some vintage decor. Just over 27 dollars for a 2 chili dog meal and a Italian beef sandwich. The chili was a little bland and don't get caught up with the survey for free small fries. It takes too much time to complete. Properly staffed and quick service.Food: 3/5
Portillo’s was a very nice place for lunch. The food and service was excellent. Clean facility with a variety of food selections. Those of you who are from the Windy City, Chi-town, Chicago will love their Italian beef sandwiches and hot dogs!!! So if your feel like some nostalgia and good food stop in and grab a bite to eat!!
Huge fan of Chicago style dogs. Their veggie Chicago dog is everything I expected. The veggie dog has a little spice to it. The veggie dog is smaller than the regular hot dog, but I think it makes it easier to ear. Their chocolate cake shake is the bomb. Vegetarian options: Veggie Chicago dog!
Great food, especially the Chicago style hot dogs. Food took a little bit to get but it was worth the wait. Try the chocolate cake also, it's to die for.Food: 5/5
The food selection is nice, especially if you love burgers and hotdogs. The dessert menu is nice too. The staff is friendly. The food tastes decent. The bathrooms are clean. Somehow I feel stuck at a 3/5 for this place. Even though I said I was dining in, the food was very tightly wrapped to go style in brown bags. I had to unwrap everything to add ketchup, etc. I had a hot dog and a cheeseburger. They were filling but left me unimpressed. Some of the negatives. No wi fi!!! The bathrooms are on the upper floor, and they closed the stairwell early, so I had to use an elevator every time I needed to wash my hands. With this food, it was very messy. Also, the soda menu was very minimal. This might be a fun place to bring a family or a bunch of kids after a game, but when flying solo, it was too much work for too little benefit.
The food was pretty good. There are definitely better Italian beefs around the metro. The chocolate cake shake was very good. It has a chain look and feel. Nothing to write home about.
Went here last week to get a slice of their famous chocolate cake. The décor and ambience was very unique and cozy and the cake was for sure worth the trip. The staff member who helped me, Mitch, was extremely polite and memorable - his fantastic customer service and hospitality is what prompted me to write this review. If you’re ever in the area I highly recommend you stop by here!
I went to Portillo’s on Friday, March 31, 2023 with my mother to try it out. Time was about 4:30 pm. My grandmother had gone a few months ago with residents from her building and the seniors had complained about loudness and the service model where customers order at the register and pick up at the orders counter. My experience with those two issues was fine. There were few people there at 4:30 pm on a Friday see picture, so it was not especially loud. And I am very used to a quick service model. Actually Raising Cane’s nearby has the same exact model and it’s good! My one star review is actually because of three marks: 1 Incorrect order on two drinks; 2 Italian Beef sandwich that was a soggy mess; 3 a chaotic kitchen where both a lot was happening and nothing happening. 1 Drinks. I verbally ordered a large Diet Coke. I received a small Diet Coke. My mother ordered a large Diet Coke. She received a large Iced Tea. We swapped and I had the Iced Tea with no ice in it. 2 The food we ordered included: A Maxwell Polish Dog and Italian Beef for me. Chicken Tenders for my mother. She wanted to go to Raising Cane’s. The Maxwell Polish Dog was great! The Italian Beef was wrapped extremely well in wax paper, so it became a soggy mess. My mother did not like the barbecue sauce with her Chicken Tenders, which was trying to be maybe a Carolina vinegar-based barbecue. She did add salt to the Chicken Tenders, so thank you to Portillo’s for providing salt and pepper at every table to liven things up. 3 Kitchen chaos. It was a weird situation where there are a lot of people standing around and then one or two managers frantically carrying handfuls of bagged orders around. I am not a restaurant expert, but generally I see at a McDonalds or the Four Seasons everyone having a job to do and the ship running better. As you can see from my profile, I don’t often do reviews, but I think Rosedale would be better served with a different restaurant tenant here. We’re from Minneapolis, and so I joked to my mother that if she wanted to go to Raising Cane’s, we should go to the world-famous Third Precinct and have the Raising Cane’s from the Lake Street location. Right now, March 31, the City is deciding whether to rebuild. But the Raising Cane’s is “new” and always very good. Part of me wanted to try the seasonal Mint Chocolate Shake at Portillo’s, but I am going to Starbucks across the street instead. One star.
I used to live in Chicago and loved Portillo’s and never expected it to have an outlet here! The food here is just as good but the spaghetti and meatballs are missing from the menu!
Went here with an old friend. Her first experience. She was completely impressed with the ambiance and the iconic decor of the place. Then the food. Being born and raised in Chicago, I had to explain a few things to her about the Chicago Dog and the Beefs. She loved the food and the Chocolate Shake blew her mind. I plan on making this a regular Home Away from Home.
