Pillar and Post Inn & Spa

About

The Pillar and Post is a landmark hotel in the heart of Niagara on the Lake. It combines modern amenities within a historic setting.

Story

Pillar and Post's original structure was built in the late 1890s as a canning factory, and since has been lovingly transformed into a fine Niagara on the Lake hotel. You can still see its original purpose in the clean lines of the brick walls and in the impressive post-and-beam construction.

The hotel has a relaxed elegance with sunshine streaming in through skylights, beautiful terra cotta tile floors, indoor and outdoor pools, and an exotic hot springs pool at 100 Fountain Spa, #1 spa in Canada (Spas of America 2011).

With our prime location in Niagara-on-the-Lake wine country, attentive service and commitment to the comfort of our guests, Pillar and Post is an ideal location for a romantic spa getaway, business meeting or a family vacation.

We had a self-care getaway on a Thursday at the spa. We bought the day pass for $50 which gave us access to i door lounge, indoor pool, hot tub, heated outdoor pool, sauna, hot spring pool and fitness center. Other treatments like massage, facial, manicure and pedicure were also available for extra.nnThe staff were very friendly and helpful. The priority access to hot spring pool goes to hotel guests, but we didn’t have any problems booking it during the day. We also enjoyed hot spring pool under the rain; pretty romantic, eh?nnThere’s tea and coffee available in the lounge and you can buy food and drinks from the bar to enjoy. Drinks are allowed in the pool area, except no glassware is allowed.nnYou’ll be provided with a robe and flip flops if you forget your slippers, but you have to bring your own swimsuit. There are towels available everywhere, and you can use them. The changing rooms were well-equipped and clean. Shampoo is available in the showers.nnIt was a very calm and relaxing day for us and we decided to plan another getaway soon.
The good:nnThere was a kind young man working the concierge. The breakfast at the cannery, was lovely from the food to the ambience. The rooms were cozy and clean! The garden across the street is beautiful and tranquil.nnThe ugly:nThis was my second stay at Pillar and Post, first return since Covid. I planned a trip for my friend and I months in advance and was truly looking forward to their exceptional service, especially in the spa.nnUnfortunately, when I arrived on Sunday the 11/17, I was told that my 2pm spa service was canceled my friends was not. I informed them I did not cancel the spa service and had the confirmation details, booking number, etc. Come to find out it was a front desk error. I could’ve looked past this, but it was handled very poorly. Instead of consulting with us or giving us options for the next day they shuffled us into the hallway and rushed to “squeeze us in”. There was mass confusion around which therapist was taking who; the furthest thing from relaxing. When I asked if I was still receiving the 80 min treatment I booked the therapist rudely replied “no, I’m forgoing my break for this.” Needless to say she was not happy or pleasant. When I asked to pick my aromatherapy scent she informed me she did not have my paperwork...? She left the room to find some scents and I ended up with a 30-35 minute service. My friend received her service, which started late due to the mass booking chaos and was still charged for an 80 min massage. To rectify this the spa offered me no charge for my short massage and a modest gift card. While disappointed I didn’t get the massage I had been looking forward to for months, I decided to have a good rest of my trip and note mistakes happened.nnHowever, this morning 11/18 there was more spa confusion. I won’t belabor the issues; but it ultimately came down to billing errors with the front desk. When I spoke to Marlene, she couldn’t have been less willing to help us. We asked for a manager and was told there was not one working today. I left there so frustrated, disappointed and embarrassed I had recommend this establishment to my friend. The lack of care for the customer experience is utterly baffling.nnI will, of course, be open-minded and give the manager an opportunity to give us a call back. However, at this moment in time, I truly cannot imagine returning to Pillar and Post or recommending it others.
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Pillar and Post last weekend, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The grounds are stunning, and the garden across the street offers a peaceful retreat. Both pools were immaculate and delightfully warm. Our room was beautifully furnished and had a romantic ambiance. Although we didn’t get the chance to enjoy the spa during this spontaneous getaway, we’re already looking forward to trying it on our next visit. Highly recommended!
Stayed here for a work conference. It was great, service was lovely and everyone on site seemed nice. Nothing bad to say! They had a spa on site so I went between seminars, it was relaxing! Loved the hot tub, that you can book it out so it’s not as packed and comfortable setting
Our first time staying here after many years going to Niagara-on-the-Lake. The grounds were beautiful, great lobby and surroundings - very nice first impression.nOur room 227 was average/good. For the price we paid I would hope for a bathroom at least that was more than the typical bathroom you'd find in an hotel room. Beds were fairly comfortable.nThe biggest negative was the lack of convenient parking. The primary parking lot was full and remained that way for our 2 day 1 night stay. There is overflow parking down the street a bit to the right of the garden across from the hotel.nThe other negative is the actual walk to the room - it is quite a trek from the lobby area to the room - with a kind of comedic amount of doors/hallways that need to be traversed.nThe grounds are above par absolutely - I'd say if you were having a wedding the garden across the street looks to be perfectly set-up for this. Very picturesque, it looks like plenty of indoor space and definitely plenty of outdoor space with beautiful, picture-worthy settings everywhere you look.
