About

Set on 742 acres in Southwest Michigan, Pierce Cedar Creek Institute provides visitors with a unique exposure to a rare blend of diverse habitats including wetlands, forests, marshes, streams, lakes, and prairies.

Story

Pierce Cedar Creek Institute is set on 742 acres with 9 miles of hiking trails. Our Visitor Center is open Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm. We will be open Saturdays in January from 10 am - 4 pm. Trails are open dawn to dusk.

The Institute is a mix between a nature center and biological field station, offers programs to serve the community, while also building partnerships with area colleges and universities to serve their faculty and students.

There are numerous seasonal opportunities for hiking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and observing wildlife on nine miles of trails throughout the natural areas. Facilities at the Institute include an auditorium, classrooms, laboratories, and overnight accommodations.

The mission of the Institute is to inspire appreciation and stewardship of our environment.

Whether you come to take a class, explore the trails, attend an event, or participate in research, your experience at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute will be a rewarding one.

Well marked and maintained trails. Good for a private hike with your favorite person or pet. Interactive signs make shorter portions of the trails good for kids. In addition there's a beautiful visitors center that has a wealth of information about the area habitats. Roughly 8 miles of trails. Highly recommend!!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
This place is some of the best hiking/walking trails around with beautiful scenery and wildlife. They also continuously have events based around environmental education. We went on a Herb walk that the center hosted and it was just beyond informative and a great time. In the winter they have trails for snowshoeing and skiing! Bring your dog, your kids or just yourself and step out into nature at Pierce Cedar Creek.

What a gem! This past weekend I drove down to Pierce Cedar Creek and spent some time on the trails. It is a fantastic location and a really great resource for people who want to explore nature on their own or learn more through their programs and classes but the public is also welcome to come and roam and explore the property. I've also been fortunate enough to teach some mushroom cultivation classes there that have been a lot of fun.
Beautiful trails. Free for public hiking. A few spring flowers. Will be back to see more!

Beautiful, easy hiking for a moderately fit person, maximum 30' hills. It would be a challenge for little kids or less fit adults. Free. Very nice welcome center.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
PCCI is beautiful. The trails are always well maintained and there are a variety of biomes to experience. Lake, swamp, forest, and prairie! It is a great place to find biodiversity and interact with the natural world.
Kind and helpful staff, interesting artwork and architecture. The food is something unique, perhaps that's part of the experience. I did not get to explore the outside or other facilities yet. Next trip.
