If I had to summarize my review in two words, I'd say "it's ok". I've eaten a lot of Pho after living in Vancouver for over 40 years so this place didn't compare or hit the mark for me. I had the regular sized #62. Outside of there being no atmosphere, it doesn't look very clean inside, and I have to order my food at a counter, the soup broth was not that hot and it lacked flavour. The one positive for me was that meat was decent. Overall tho, I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be back.
Would highly recommend the spicy beef lemongrass pho! It was a perfect balance of flavours with a generous serving of beef. The restaurant and service is exactly as they advertise, looking to recapture the casual, street food experience that comes with Vietnamese food. All in all an excellent place to stop for a quick, cheap, hearty meal
We dined here during our recent stay in Victoria. Hubby is more of a pho expert and he thought it was pretty good but didn’t “wow” him. I got the spicy beef lemongrass soup. I thought it was good… I didn’t really like whatever jelly-type thing was in it or the beef balls. I added a bit of spice to it but overall it had great flavour. The fresh rolls were also quite yummy and I enjoyed the peanut sauce it came with!
Great vermicelli bowl. For comparison, their crispy roll was tastier and better texture than Green Leaf Bistro's but their grilled pork meat was drier than GLB's - still tasty but a bit drier than I'm used to. Overall great and staff has been great when picking up at lunch.
I devoured my beef vermicelli dish! The meal was delicious and hit the spot. The service was fantastic and he was very attentive. I will definitely be back to try more on the menu!
Outstanding pho, especially the spicy #23. Staff are wonderfully friendly! Hi Bobby For the spicy beef satay I asked for extra peanuts on the side.
A quick and easy no frills place for lunch. Ordered from the counter, food made fast, and decent tasting and clean enough. Self serve I e water station as well.
Came here by default as we were trying to find another restaurant, but these guys were closer. We ordered steak vermicelli, spring rolls, #62 rare beef and beef ball Phở, side rice, 1 viet coffee, 1 side saté broth, and 3 tea. Came to $70ish. The postives: The spring rolls are probably some of the best I've had in North America. I've eaten Viet all over. The grilled steak for the vermicelli dish my mom had was tasty and tender. I especially enjoyed the shallots and cilantro I the bowl. The meat for the Phở was fresh and tasty. Their saté Phở, while it's not authentic - was full-bodied and different from the style of saté I've had in AB with coconut milk added. The negatives: My broth wasn't hot enough for me. I like to scald my tongue. The saté broth was though. The Vietnamese coffee needed more of a stronger brew on the amount of water. It lacked the thickness you need of a strong espresso brewed viet coffee. Also, while the regular broth had a good amount of the spice blend, it lacked the beefy bone umami. Tasted a bit bland. You need the big bold bone flavor and a little bit of the fat from the marrow for a well-rounded bowl of Phở. I'd go back for the spring rolls and vermicelli.. and maybe the saté. Also, the price is a little steep for what I usually pay. Don't come for the ambiance unless you want the ambiance of true Vietnam styles.
Descent food. I would not recommend this restaurant to vegans though. There are not that many options. Their veggie pho uses meat broth. We were also surprised how small the spring rolls are. There are only two pieces.
Actually very good, I got the báhn mì and as someone who came in from outside of the island I never expected it meet my expectations, the cashier was white so I was already put off, they assured me the food was good, still didn't trust them, but once I took a few bites I was surprised, definitely one of the best I've had, great crunchy bread, tasty creamy aioli, crunchy vegetables, flavourful meat and pate, not very spicy though if that's your thing. If you care about the in person experience, the atmosphere is nice and cozy, and the cashier was fun.
