Ovens Natural Park

About

Welcome to The Ovens Natural Park.

Story

Located between Riverport and Lunenburg, we are a privately owned park with spectacular sea caves. Folks come from all over the planet to visit our sea caves. Sea Cave walk may be done within an hour for those on a tight schedule, or one may spend all day going into the caves, the cave walk along the Ovens cliffs, etc. We also have a campground in our park surrounded by over a 100 acres of pristene coastal forest atop the cliffs of Nova Scotia on the ocean. We are located on a stunning peninsula, on one side Lunenburg Bay (Lunenburg Harbour) + best sunrises on the planet and the other side Rose Bay best sun down (rivals Key West) of the mighty Atlantic. The park was the site of a gold rush in 1861 to this day we offer gold panning on one of our beaches, Cunard Beach (named after the shipping line as they came and took more than half the sand on Cunard Beach and brought it back to the UK in 1861 as the sand was filled with gold) and yes they find gold. We sell or rent gold pans and other supplies for our guests in our little general store. And we have a little museum about the history of the park and that very exciting time in Nova Scotia history. Lots to do for day visitors, or stay for a while to enjoy our beautiful coastline with seals, dolphins, whales, etc.. We offer tent camping, and serviced sites for RV's, we also have camping cabins available ranging from very very basic to our two log cabins with wifi. Our on site licensed restaurant is very popular, our chef Mimi and other talented kitchen staff create delicious farm to table meals in our ocean front licensed restaurant 7 days a week, from breakfast (best egg man on the east coast, and as an extra treat he might play some tunes on the piano) 8am til last dinner order taken at 8:45pm and then snack + homemade desserts menu available til 10pm. Restaurant + Live entertainment here every night, (except an occasional Monday) from July 1 to Labour Day.

We recycle, reuse and repurpose. Our goal is to keep this little bit of heaven green for generations to come. Our pigs help out on a daily basis by eating all our leftover food from the store and restaurant. Our goats keep the lawns trimmed and they love eating our gardens, especially the twins. The chickens lay eggs for all our egg needs. And the bunnies are just adorable. This will be our 31st year and we are very excited.

Very cool location, decent camping. We stayed for 1 night in early august. We reserved an unserviced tent site, which was fairly secluded from neighbours and off in a more forested area. We could look through the trees and out over the water from our campsite, so that was quite nice. Campground was very quiet where we were. There was a boil water advisory due to the dry summer, so we drank our own bottled water out of convenience. Bathroom facilities are a bit out of date / cramped and could use a rebuild, but otherwise the camping amenities were all there and the rates were reasonable enough. The sea cave trail was extremely cool to see. Overall, a good place to camp in a great location.

Great hiking trail. Please note this is a private lot, not provincial. There is an entry fee. It is a historic site. In the 1800, it was a big gold mine. Don't be surprised if you see people down the rocky beach with metal detectors.

Has been 20 yrs since we were here. Place hadn't changed much. But wash rooms and shower stalls need to be changed with new paint. Staff friendly and restaurant staff great.

Great tenting sites, awesome view! It is possible to have a site surrounded with trees for more privacy. The negative aspect are the showers and washrooms. Both are at different areas (you cannot do all your business in one place!) and both are absolutely disgusting. It's a shame for such a beautiful place. Lots of potentiel.

The caves are beautiful. It's a shame that they are being monetized like this. It would be one thing if the paths were kept up well, and maintained safely, but they just aren't. 10 bucks a head to see a part of Canada that should be open to all is just . . . . Pathetic. The petting zoo, is also just a cage with some depressed animals in it that you can't get to. You wouldn't want to though, as it smells so horrible back there. I don't know what to say. The caves should be a national park, and not a roadside attraction kept from the public by some people who just want to make money.
