The Knot Pub

About

Not just a Pub, an Atmosphere!!

Story

Originally destined to be a German-style pub in keeping with the local culture, Lunenburg’s seafaring history eventually won out as The Knot has developed a decidedly sea-shanty-esque charm. For hundreds of years, oak was the traditional wood used for boat building in Lunenburg and inspired much of the wooden interior. In fact, most of the oak you’ll see inside onced formed Denyse’s father’s barn in Wentzell’s Lake. Now that’s local building material!

You’ll notice many nautical brass fittings as you look around which mostly came from the Lunenburg Foundry down the street. The copper pennies on the ceiling though are Denyse’s own design. She put every one of them up there herself. Try counting them!

One of the main curiosities as you walk in are the large, horseshoe-shaped seats which look like they would be right at home in the bow of a tall ship. The design was inspired by a bar in Germany and is meant to encourage conversation and conviviality with places to stand or sit – whichever you prefer!

And if at the end of the night you happen to notice a faint outline of a lady gliding by – either you’ve had one too many pints – or you’re lucky enough to have spotted the resident ghost. No one knows exactly who she is but she’s definitely friendly – just like everyone else here!

The Knot Pub was such a lovely find. The atmosphere is different in the best possible way—super cozy, warm, and inviting. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to settle in and stay a while. The staff were wonderful, and the food absolutely delivered.nnI had the fish chowder and the fish cakes, and both were delicious. The fish cakes were especially a standout and honestly well worth the price. What I appreciated most was the balance—unlike some places that charge more for similar fish cakes and just pile on extra fries, this felt much more thoughtful, and everything tasted really fresh. A very comforting meal overall, and I’d happily come back again.
This is the pub to hit in Lunenberg! All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I thought the scallops were amazing and according to my buddy it was the best seafood chowder he has had in his life.
Knot burger was an excellent, regional-specific burger — hot, well cooked, and tasty with two types of mustard.
We had lunch at the Knot and it was so delicious we came back for dinner to try a couple other menu items. I loved the cream of mussel soup, which was entirely new to me. So delicious with caramelized onion and plenty of mussels! The chowder was also very yummy and warming on a blustery day.nnDinner was just as delicious. The portions were generous and the ceasar salad was a great complement to the Knot burger. Friendly, attentive service and reasonable prices. I hope you try the Knot.
Super friendly service but they can get a little slow once it becomes a full house. Food was excellent and thankfully we asked about the lobster roll which isn't on the menu. Everything tasted great.nnThe must try here is the Caesar Salad. They said it made them famous on the menu and I was skeptical but it is amazing.nnIf your tired are exploring Lunenburg, take the extra walk and give the Knot a try!
