The Knot Pub

About

Not just a Pub, an Atmosphere!!

Story

Originally destined to be a German-style pub in keeping with the local culture, Lunenburg’s seafaring history eventually won out as The Knot has developed a decidedly sea-shanty-esque charm. For hundreds of years, oak was the traditional wood used for boat building in Lunenburg and inspired much of the wooden interior. In fact, most of the oak you’ll see inside onced formed Denyse’s father’s barn in Wentzell’s Lake. Now that’s local building material!

You’ll notice many nautical brass fittings as you look around which mostly came from the Lunenburg Foundry down the street. The copper pennies on the ceiling though are Denyse’s own design. She put every one of them up there herself. Try counting them!

One of the main curiosities as you walk in are the large, horseshoe-shaped seats which look like they would be right at home in the bow of a tall ship. The design was inspired by a bar in Germany and is meant to encourage conversation and conviviality with places to stand or sit – whichever you prefer!

And if at the end of the night you happen to notice a faint outline of a lady gliding by – either you’ve had one too many pints – or you’re lucky enough to have spotted the resident ghost. No one knows exactly who she is but she’s definitely friendly – just like everyone else here!

We tried finding a table at one of the restaurants along the waterfront area and it was so busy and packed. We ended up coming to this pub, which wound up being the greatest decisions ever. Our server was amazing, ultra friendly and just wonderful service all around. We ordered the french onion soup, fish chowder, and the lobster roll and fish and chips. Both soups were delicious, and the fish chowder was filled with delicious pieces of fish throughout. Very generously portioned. The lobster roll had 6oz of lobster meat and it was probably the largest lobster roll I've ever had. So so delicious. I do wish the bun had been a little softer and maybe a little less thick as it was a bit dry, but overall I would definitely order this again. Fish and chips were good as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant and next time we're back in town, this will be our first option for dining.
I wish I could give this place more stars, it really deserves it. We stopped here for a quick lunch and got fish and chips. Each one of our dishes was perfect. The fish was nice and flakey but crispy. The fries were amazing. I’m still dreaming about this meal and wish we were close so we could visit often. The staff here is also so friendly which just made our time here that much more special. It’s definitely a must stop!
Timeless classic to visit - maritime kitsch in the best way possible! Hasn’t changed a bit in 25 years of visiting! On par pub fare, great taps, and always best with live music.
Knot Pub deserves more than 5 stars! I had a stand out fish and chips lunch! The haddock was flaky and fresh, crisp light batter, and those fries! Hand cut to perfection. Super friendly service and great ambiance. Thank you!!
I absolutely adore this restaurant! Such a great place to catch a quick meal! The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The food is fantastic! My favorite go-to is the mussels! Can't go wrong with anything in the menu tho! The staff are always so welcoming and efficient. Highly recommend to visit if you are in the area. Can't wait to visit the pub and the scenery isn't too bad either
It has a slight, “dark, cabin in the woods that’s in a disney movie” kind of feel. Which is not a bad thing! Food was delicious! Staff was nice, and good service for a very busy Saturday night. Best French onion soup I’ve had at any restaurant so far! Lobster fettuccini and the lobster roll were delicious as well!
Good restaurant to grab a bite. Lots of patio seating is available. Food was reasonably priced and tasty. We shared the two piece fish and chips and the staff split the both the fish and the fries portions in half on separate plates which we have never seen done at any other restaurants. The indoor seating can get a bit dark though and there are also slot machines available to try your luck near the washrooms.
Best lobster linguine I’ve ever had! It was very rich and creamy. Also, staff forgot her name was very friendly.
Love this lil gem.. I can remember when it opened . And after all these years.. When I visit my family in the area we grab lunch here . Love this place Cute.. good service..great pub food..love the pub club with Caesar salad..
A very vibrant place. We were there on a Friday evening around 7pm, and it was packed! I had some fish cakes and a salad, my husband had fish and chips. Both meals were very good. The service was a bit slow but as previously mentioned, it was so busy that there was a half hour wait to get a good seat, so they encouraged you to sit at the bar until a table became available.
