Such a surprising gem of an authentic Japanese eatery nestled within the mountains! Not only was the food simply delectably fresh and authentic, they were all prepared with care and love. The chef and owners are clearly proud of their restaurant and passionate about what they do. The Bento boxes lunch specials were delicious, utterly lovely to behold and such a great deal; the tempura was fluffy and light. We only wished that there could have had been a layer of rice served beneath the meats, which would have brought it up a notch further. The udon soup was tasty and inviting. We will definitely drop in for a good meal the next time we visit Jasper!
I had eaten here once before, last March with my great nephew. The food was amazing. I was looking forward to going again and I did last Tuesday. I had edamame which is always a great appetizer. I had the dynamite roll and the black dragon roll the bottom one in the picture. They were excellent. I had to pace myself. Go to One Sushi in Jasper Alberta on the corner of Hazel and Patricia. GO!!
Family friendly, reliable, tasty lunch options and friendly staff! We were a group of six with young kids and staff promptly accommodated our requests. Food came out quickly and lunch box was a great value. Kids loved udon and chicken cutlet. We wish we stayed longer in Jasper to go back for the food.
Short version first, the staff and chef which looked like the owners were rude and had heavy faces all throughout our meal which made our meal atmosphere really awful. They are also very expensive with small servings. Please don’t waste your money and time here. Long version - we saw a Japanese restaurant while driving around looking for a place to eat and we got excited. We were in a bit of a hurry because we were on the last day of our Alberta vacation. We ordered take-out in person for my daughter, my son and myself for 3 people but they told us it will take 20 mins so I asked my husband who was at A&W to come so we can be together while we waited for our food. We were the only customers so I thought it would be okay for my husband to eat his single A&W burger while waiting with us. Looking back at it now, I should have asked if it was okay. Our order came the same time my husband walked in. We decided to eat in because my little girl ordered ramen soup and it would be challenging to eat it in the car. My husband took two bites if his burger and the chef, came down and sternly and rudely told my husband not to eat his burger there which was understandable so he stopped. We understood the request and respected it. I was just shocked at how rude the chef was. He did not ask politely but demanded and sternly asked which startled me and my kids. It was as if we committed a terrible crime. My husband only took two bites of his burger at that time and wrapped it back in the paper bag. BUT they were also not happy we decided to eat in even if we bought the my food and my kids food there. We spent over a $100 dollars at their restaurant and they kept repeating it was take out. I kept asking if it was okay to eat in the food we ordered from them and we are the only customers there and they kept giving me murmurs and frowned faces. The chef even went down to cashier’s area which was directly at our side to watch us and ensure my husband was not eating. My husband had long gone packed his burger when he was told the first time. To make matters worse, they kept repeating take-out and I kept saying, is it ok to eat in since we bought the food there? WE WERE THE ONLY customers there now I understand why the other surrounding restaurants were packed and they were empty. I asked for a spoon because my daughter ordered soup and they said they had no plastic spoons for the take out bag but we were dining in by now. They didn't bother to offer us proper metal spoons for my daughter's soup. I didn’t bother asking for a metal spoon because at this point they were clear they wanted us to leave. I’ve never been in such an unpleasant restaurant. Our lunch was completely ruined. My Chirashi Don was very meager - barely half of the take out bowl I took 2 bites from the bowl on photo attached below for $24 before taxes. This was at the end of our Jasper trip and this was not a good ending. This was not aligned with all the other wonderful experience we had at Jasper. I almost never leave 1 star reviews because I know most people leave negative feedback and rarely positive ones. I always made the effort to leave positive reviews. This was my first one star review which should say a lot. I was really contemplating leaving this feedback because of what small businesses had to go through during the pandemic. But I realized for a business to thrive the relationship has to be both ways. Scroll down on the reviews and you will see similar feedback from a month and couple of months ago. The customers also have to be treated right so we leave great reviews. I didn't want that kind of behaviour to be repeated and I was hoping this review would help them treat the next customer better. We are all in this together. Restaurants with great service thrive.
My family and I spent 11 days in Jasper and we ate dinner 3 times at One Sushi, they were very accommodating and the food is fantastic!! We had the same server for two dinners and she remembered us from our previous dinner. She was so fantastic and very friendly. We didn't find out her name but she had just started there last week!! You are so lucky to have found a good one!!
Worse experience ever. It must be a fake Japanese restaurant. The ramen is not tasty at all. They just used instant Ramen noodle, and it is very salty. I drank lots of water after lunch. The lunch bentos my family ordered seem OK. I will never come again.
Great little Sushi spot nestled in the heart of the rocky mountains, fresh sushi, great service. I have tried it 3 times now. Once when they first opened in March we had take out it was amazing. Then I took my son there a week ago and we ate both Saturday and Sunday. Love the presentation!!
The food and service is inconsistent. The roll pictured in this review is a deep fried California roll. I requested spicy sauce on the inside and I was brought a roll with spicy sauce and unagi sauce on top. When I told the server it was not what I ordered she didn’t seem to understand, despite having told her twice when ordering and her entering it into the computer as “inside spicy sauce.” The chef came to our table and said it is not possible to mix the spicy sauce with the crab inside……..from a theoretical stand point it is definitely possible, from a logical standpoint, if it is not possible why would you accept the order? One sushi is the only “accessible” sushi place in Jasper. The only other options are Oka sushi at the Fairmont or Whiskey Jacks on Sunday’s. Oka sushi is fantastic and I highly recommend it if you can get a reservation. However, reservations are limited and walk in seating is not guaranteed. It’s also not within walking distance from downtown, so you’ll need to have a car or have to take a taxi. Whiskey Jacks has sushi specials on Sunday’s and it is good, I like the California rolls, salmon nigiri, and salmon sashimi. But it’s only on Sunday's, only for dinner, and very limited ordering options. Onesushi essentially has a monopoly in Jasper and they know this. They serve subpar overpriced sushi options to sushi desperate locals and unknowing tourists. If you’re a tourist I recommend trying to get in at Oka or choosing a different cuisine. The Raven has fantastic fondu for two that’s very affordable during happy hour.
Not much choice in Jasper. Average at best but has lots of tables so easy to get in for a bite.
Service was great But just average sushi nothing special. Tuna sushi was disappointed but overall it is okay to enjoy if you are a huge sushi fan. It would be nice to offer the miso soup refill for free..
