Amazing place, hidden in the lower level of the main building of JPL, you’ll find the best sushi in Alberta outside of Edmonton and Calgary. Mr. Oka is a master sushi chef and makes delicious, fresh sushi rolls, sashimi, hand rolls, you name it. It’s funny because the fish tastes very fresh yet you are nowhere where the ocean - he ships in seafood from Vancouver weekly. Currently they are doing reservations between 6 and 6:30 PM but walk-ins after that until 9:30 PM. There are only around 10 seats so if it’s full when you walk-in, keep trying!
it was late, it was tired, it was cold. get to Jasper lake lodge, there was this small Oka Sushi downstairs. it is clean, it is warm and it is friendly. the plate is fresh, the chef is very clean and authentic. worth to try.
Small location, small menu but MASSIVE taste and atmosphere feeling Came in last minute and we were fortunate enough to be able to get a table without a reservation, felt like we walked into a friend's house. We were greeted and treated like family. The sashimi we ordered was the best I've had and the presentation was what can only be referred to as art!
Very clean, very organized. Very friendly staff. Unfortunately I felt the quality and taste of food was nowhere near where it was hyped up to be. 2 or 3 pieces of my sashimi were actually still frozen.the chef seemed to struggle to keep pace with only a few customers. From all the reading I had done I was truly expecting a world class dining experience. Reality was a cramped shoebox size restaurant next to the gift shop in the basement of the Jasper Park Lodge with honestly mediocre at best sushi. I really was hoping to provide a 5 star review on this spot, but I would be lying if I did !
Mr. Oka is the hidden gem in the Jasper Park Lodge. His food is outstanding. The prices are very reasonable and he is always a kind soul to talk to. He has been doing take out due to COVID19, so I miss having a glass of Sake with him. The restaurant is very small and cozy and I can't wait to visit again.
This was the most delightful sushi experience that I've had in recent memory. While the restaurant doesn't have the glitz and glamour of a sushi restaurant in the city, Mr. Oka more than makes up for it with his passion and joy. The sushi was delicious, and the ika was by far my favourite. All along the way Mr. Oka shared his stories while expertly making and serving the dishes. If you have a couple hours to enjoy a slow dining experience, Mr. Oka Sushi will be one that you'll remember for years to come. Thanks again Mr. Oka! I'll be back again soon.
Is it Michelin Star Quality....no Is it edomae style omakase....no But is it pretty good sushi considering your in a land locked resort 3 hours away from anything that you can call a "'big city"....hell yes! Oka sushi exceeded our expectations in many ways. His fish quality is good, his portion sizes are generous and his pricing is more than reasonable.... especially considering if it's located inside a resort hotel. I especially like his Albacore Tuna Toro no it's not as good as O-toro or Chu-toro from a blue fin it's very fatty and full of flavor. His Amaebi and Hotate were both super fresh and very sweet. His chopped scallop Nigiri is great as he cuts up full scallops on front of you and mixes it with Japanese mayo and tobiko, rather than premade stuff.
We were so glad we were able to make a reservation at Oka Sushi! You need one by the way, there were only maybe 10 seats in the restaurant. You can tell each piece of sushi was hand-made with love and care. I heard that the fish is shipped in fresh everyday from BC, and you can certainly taste the freshness. Also, I dont know what it is in that spicy sauce but it was absolutely addicting. The mini oka roll was so good that we ordered it a second time. One thing to keep in mind is that since there's only 1 sushi chef, so dinner might take 1.5-2 hours. But it was such a lovely experience with excellent service, and well worth the wait. We hope we can come back again in the future.
This place is a hidden secret! Very intimate, 10 person seating eatery. My wife and I were fortunate enough to come in on our only night staying at the Fairmont. We walked in at last seating 9:15pm. Prices were not outrageous compared to the other hotel restaurants. But that doesn’t mean the quality was sacrificed. This is a slow, relaxed and delicious place to eat. Make reservations weeks, if not months in advance. The chef, Oka, makes great conversation and adds to the ambience. You will not be disappointed!
Incredible, quality sushi. 10/10 would recommend. On a Thursday night we weren’t able to get a reservation which are all for 6-630 but we were able to easily get a walk up seat around 745-8pm when the first diners headed out.
