This location is clean and organizined, however I am giving 1 star because of the buying experience I had. While I understand that you may have too much stock in a size I am trying to sell, not even going through my tote of items and making me wait 3+hours to collect is actually ridiculous. Before I bring my items to any location I always wash, fold and sort based on sizes and styles. When I came back to see what was taken from my items I was actually shocked that I was receiving $2!!! That doesn’t even pay for the gas it took me to get back to the location. From the looks of it you grabbed the first few things in the top of the tote and didn’t even go through the rest. Now I actually know my tote was not gone through because of how particular I fold my items and how they are stacked, not to mention the amount of Nike, Disney, and other brand names that were left in the tote not touched. I will be going to other locations where I know my time isn’t being wasted.
This location is Terrible. I much prefer the upper James location. I was here recently and notice an older woman yelling a this young girl. She made her feel so embarrassed, she had tears in her eyes. The older woman continued to yell her at her in-front of me and other customers which is so unprofessional. It made everyone feel so uncomfortable. The poor young girl continued to cash me out. I could see tears running down her face. I will not be coming here again. Imagine working a minimum wage job and being treated like some military camp. This store was very unorganized and cramped compared to its other locations . Plus this disgusting event I witnessed, I will not be coming here again.
I’m honestly surprised by the low rating! As a buyer, this is the best locationnsuper clean and organized even the toys are easy to find! Not like other places where you have to dig through dirty bins.nnKudos to all the staff for managing such a clean store!
Buying is fine - despite higher prices for used clothing .. cheaper to buy new on sale at old navy and Walmart. In addition they are terrible to sell to - I combed through every item of clothing, no spots - decent brand such as Nike, Disney etc all in good condition and varied seasons. I elected into this model because I thought it was environmentally friendly but it’s waste of time and not practical for busy families. Donated to a non profit instead.
I usually shop at the Upper James location and have also visited OUAC stores in other cities, but this one is by far the cleanest and most organized—especially the book and toy sections. I truly appreciate the store layout and how well-maintained everything is. It's so impressive that I'm now willing to make the longer drive 30 minutes vs. 10 minutes to shop here going forward.nnThat said, I’d like to offer some constructive feedback for the store owners and management at all locations. While I understand that staff may sometimes encounter challenging customers, I believe all employees across locations could benefit from additional customer service training.nnDuring all of my visits, I’ve noticed a general lack of engagement from the staff. For example, during today’s visit, I mentioned at the counter that I had brought items in, but the staff member didn’t acknowledge it beyond giving the standard explanation about why certain items weren’t accepted. There was no attempt at conversation or even a simple acknowledgment, which made the interaction feel impersonal.nnLater, I returned to the store just two minutes after checking out to grab one more item and said, “Sorry, my husband texted me after I left the store” with a laugh, but again, I was met with silence. The lack of response made the exchange feel awkward and uncomfortable.nnIf I wanted to interact with a robot, I’d go somewhere with self-checkout like Value Village. A little warmth and communication including body language can go a long way in making customers feel welcome and valued.nnLastly, it would be great if the store could consider offering battery recycling as part of its mission to reduce waste and prevent harmful materials from ending up in landfills. It’s a small initiative that could have a meaningful environmental impact.nn*Edited to respond to owner's response*nThanks so much for the info! I didn't even know they were in the box until I got home. I know staff have a lot of info to share at once so maybe some signage like a sign over a bin for batteries regarding this would be helpful.
