My first omakase experience and I loved every moment of it. My partner booked us a seat and the restaurant remembered it was our anniversary. Dinner was more than just amazing food with freshly imported ingredients from Japan but also watching the chefs prepare your meal in front of you was truly amazing you can see their skill and craftsmanship in their work. We plan to come back hopefully next time for another special occasion or lunch.
After having lived in Japan - I can safely say that this place is up to par with some of the best sushi there. Truly elevating the standard of what is possible in Montreal. Definitely worth the price tag - a unique experience we will never forget! STRONGLY RECOMMEND!!!
Where do I start? Incredible experience from start to finish! I've never experienced an Omakase like this outside of Japan. You can easily forget that you are in Montreal because the entire experience is so authentically Japanese. Okeya Kyujiro would easily fit right in the Tokyo restaurant scene and I'm sure would be highly rated there as well! This will be my go to restaurant for when I want to experience Japan but not the 14 hour flight to get there!
I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Montreal Japanese omakase restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. The chefs did an excellent job at showcasing the culture and traditions of omakase through their precise and thoughtful presentations. The food was absolutely delicious, with each dish being carefully crafted and beautifully presented. The sushi was some of the freshest and most flavorful I've ever had, and the other dishes were equally impressive. The attention to detail in each dish was evident, and it was clear that the chefs took great care in selecting the ingredients and preparing them to perfection.
Although it seems out of place to search for a sushi restaurant in Montreal, since there are so many staple French establishments in the city. I’ve made it a habit to try 1 or 2 sushi places every time I travel. Minus a fusion Peruvian sushi restaurant that impressed me with its unique flavor profile, I’ve failed miserably in my search for a more traditional sushi joint. Enter Okeya Kyujiro, a small edomae style traditional sushi spot filled with a group of talented young staff members that are serving up food that is way more than the price of admission $250. It’s food theater with the star of the show being still the food. The amount of value they are providing the community, the integrity and pride in their food & service, and the freshness & taste of their food all lends itself to an experience that you won’t soon forget. Easily a top ten sushi meal and I’ve had some pretty amazing experiences. My only caveat is that they wouldn’t allow me to order more than the set course. There were some amazing standout dishes that I wanted to experience more then once. Well because of this, I’ve canceled another reservation for the following night, just to have another round of some pretty inspired food. If you eat here after reading this review, you are welcome.
It's a wonderful experience and very similar to what you'd get in Japan: the showmanship and the quality of ingredients are up there. You get to see up close several cooking techniques like preparing sushi rice, cutting sashimi, etc. The service and aesthetics are impeccable: every meal is explained and nicely presented. But flavor-wise and cohesion throughout the course, I'd say it was a bit lacking in complexity and smoothness. I still recommend it for the experience alone, especially if you've never experienced an omakase from Japan.
Impeccable! My expectations were very high and they didn't disappoint. This is a restaurant where the focus is food and service, not conversation. They call each dinner service a show. You are treated by each staff member as though you are a cherished guest in their home and the food is close perfect.
This instantly became my favorite fine dining restaurant overnight!! So worth every single penny. They use top notch ingredients and each dish is intricately thought out. The wagyu bite was exquisite&unexpected. This is more than a sushi place. Dining experience, flow of meal, everything was wonderful. Lasted 1h30 because of literally no wait time in between dishes. And apparently their menu is constantly improving. Definitely coming back!
The nigiri are truly amazing. The fish is rich in flavor and tender. The toro is particularly impressive. It is so soft and melt in your mouth. Not very often you can have such high quality of fish. Have to say it is absolutely worth the price if you are looking for quality sushi. Only get to try it because they are offering takeaway meal. Hopefully someday try their dine-in if I ever get the money Would definitely recommend if you have the money to try.
This omakase is to die for. Everything from the moment you enter inside is lovely, from the service to the ambiance to the food. I really look forward to coming back and see how their menu evolves! Everything was so fresh and tasty, it feels like it melts right into your mouth! It would be an excellent idea for a special occasion or an anniversary. I was completely charmed by the traditional Japanese omakase presentation.
