Story

The Northern Idaho Crisis Center (NICC) is a 501(3) c Charitable Organization; that was created to help people who are having a mental health crisis or a drug or alcohol problem. NICC is a collaborative effort of Kootenai Health, Heritage Health, Health & Welfare, and Panhandle Health, to create a safe 24/7 facility for those in crisis. The center is free, safe and private. Staff can help facilitate outside resources for each individual's needs. NICC can provide immediate food & shelter for up to 24 hours, but most individuals get assistance they need in less time. We are here to listen if you want to talk. Our lives are full of stressors-- both large and small--but, no matter the complexity, it helps to talk with someone. The NICC staff can help individuals experiencing a change in symptoms, life circumstances or substance abuse related changes.
Those people seeking emergent medical care should still go to the Emergency Department.

Contact us today at (208) 625-4884 or come to the Crisis Center at 2195 Ironwood Court, Suite D, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. We are open 24 hours a day.

I was recommended to call their hotline by a mental health counselor. She gave me their name and number but not other details of what this place does. I called which was difficult because I have major anxiety problems talking to people over the phone. The person who answered was very rude and abrupt. He asked me what I wanted from them. I was starting to explain that I am not familiar yet with their services and he literally scoffed at me and said, "So your counselor gave you our number and didn't even tell you what we do?" angrily. I felt too uncomfortable to continue I could not continue the call and I said started to apologize to try and end the call and he just said "YOU"RE WELCOME" and hung up. I was not expecting someone like this to answer the hotline at a mental health crisis center.
The Northern Idaho Crisis Center is a very safe, secure and valuable place. I had written an extremely negative review several months ago because of how I felt about an interaction I'd had with the facility. I went there needing help, but was very defiant and non compliant with their procedures and protocols. I felt I had been mistreated and left there very angry. I have since realized that because it is a crisis center it is staffed by individuals that are trained to meet the needs of someone suffering from a mental health crisis. For this reason, they must have certain procedures and protocols in place in order to effectively help someone suffering from a mental health crisis.
I brought my good friend who was having a mental health episode to this establishment and was treated very poorly. I was at my wits end with the situation and asking for help when I was told I needed to bring him to the emergency room. I had my daughter and didn’t have the wherewithal to deal with the situation any further so I left him with their trained staff instead hoping he could stay the night in one of their beds, they sent him back to my house in a taxi an hour later.
Was here for help the other week and the woman doing my intake information kept insisting that if I was religious and believed in god my mental health issues would be cured and that was very out of line and I almost left because of it.
When I was unsafe with myself, Northern Idaho Crisis Center gave me a time out and resources that my own research didn’t find. It’s totally voluntary, compassionate and knowledgeable. Don’t be freaked out when you are met at the door by security. It’s for YOUR security as well as for everyone else.
what happened people were rude and disrespectful to me, and the counselor wanted to shrug me away as much as possible. Unbelievable how nice this place used to be
Just finished. I was afraid to come in. Wasn't sure what to expect. Had a much needed talk with the counselor. Finally nice to have someone take time to listen. Got alot of stuff out that I have been carrying for a long time. Thank you!
I am ALIVE!! Thank you for being there for me. I'm learning new ways to cope thanks to your instruction. Bless you, Kyle and Brian. Jesus is so good, all day every day
