I just happened to find this place when I was exploring Aberdeen Centre. I’m just traveling to Vancouver and so I’m not familiar with Japanese cuisine here. Menu is simple and not much selection but they are very authentic and tasty!! We had Katsu Don, Ebi Katsu with Curry Rice, we also tried the Fried Oysters and Uni sushi. I wanted to try their Chirashi Don or Sashimi platter, coz it looks so good on the Google photo. But the server told us that they don’t have Botan Shrimp on that day, so I didn’t order coz it doesn’t give me enough confidence for what I’m going to get. In conclusion, I hope the server can be more informative, know what the choice of fish today or the kitchen and server should have a briefing everyday about the menu. That way the server can serve their customers more professionally.
Wow! Their sushi is fabulous!!! Pleasantly surprised. They actually have the best sushi rice with the perfect amount of vinegar, sweetness, and freshness. I highly recommend the crispy salmon skin roll! It’s pure yum! The lobster roll is good too and very pretty since it is rolled in pink soypaper instead of nori. Everything we tried was fresh and of great quality. The Uni nigiri was so fresh and creamy. Amazing sushi!
It's Japanese therefore, it's expensive. That we were expecting. It was a special occasion so we look past the price this time. Food tasted pretty good but no credit to the chef though. It's raw fish in its original taste; the chef didn't created it. But presentation was excellent and this time credit to the chef as he painstakingly took time to present his creation - a little too much time though. Wife and I were the only customers in the whole restaurant, and it took the chef 15-20 minutes for the food to arrive one by one. I hate to imagine what a full-house restaurant would feel like.
Got salmon Don, salmon maki, beef teriyaki Don, tempura, and unagi skewer The only good part was the unagi skewer. It was buoyant and had a nice sweet and savoury flavour. However, the rice was flavourless, salmon was thinly sliced, and beef teriyaki was chewy. Price was quite expensive especially given the quality but maybe expected from being in Aberdeen. Definitely felt like a missed opportunity. It’s a nice place in a mall known for good food. A better quality rice would make a big difference to the overall experience.
Happy hour specials are good before 5:30pm. Tonkatsu with udon is my “go to” dinner set. Food is 5 stars value for money. Service is inconsistent. Though the servers were nice there were uncomfortable moments. The chef shouting at the servers “make sure they leave by 6:30!” multiple times when we arrived at 5pm is really not good hospitality. Should have tried something like “we have a reservation for that table at 6:30. Is that enough time?” Still food wins over service!
Finally visited Mei Ten restaurant today. The staff was very friendly and gave us lots of recommendation on their menu. We ordered the yakitori chicken don, hamachi sushi bowl, pumpkin croquette, chicken cartilage, and assorted sashimi. The food tasted good but I agree with everyone about the portion of the rice. It was quite small for the price. I understand cost of food is going up but the restaurant could definitely put a little more rice into the bowl even not adding more of the toppings. I hope the owner is reading this and consider the suggestion. If it wasn't the friendly service I would rate 4 stars. Other than that we enjoyed our food. I really like the pumpkin coroquette. It was crispy and not oily. Assorted sashimi at $29.99 was reasonable and fresh. I will definitely come back to try other items, but not the rice bowls that we had today unless they would add more rice lol Please keep up the good work!
This is my Table for 2 tonight. So delicious Sashimi is soooo fresh and you can taste the difference between the others and this one The dry mixed Udon is another “must-eat” item. A5 Wagyu Don is under special offer, $39, sooo good.
Not worth it at all and never again. Usually I can’t finish the bowl in other places but I didn’t get full after finished this salmon ikura don. Service is so so as I believe salmon don should be served with soy sauce but you need to request it by yourselves. Portion of Pork Loin Katsudon Set is better but no surprise for the texture and flavour. Though it is not that expensive, you can have better choice with this price!
Ordered the smoked salmon roll, lobster roll, black dragon roll, and the sea urchin. Service was great and rolls were good.Food: 5/5
Meiten is the newest sushi restaurant to hit Richmond! They are currently doing Soft Opening and they are already super popular! They offer really fresh sashimi and they have really fatty blue fin to A5 Miyazaki Wagyu. Here's what I tried:⁣⁣ Their price is really affordable, especially their appetizers which are only about $4-5 a plate. They donburis are fully loaded. And you must try both the Blue Fin Kama or the A5 Wagyu Don or Uni Ikura Don - These three dishes are definitely my highlight. Definitely check them out ASAP and get there early before it is packed.⁣⁣
