I had great customer service from a young lady named Corinne, showing me a few power amps and other PA gear, but as I was testing out a keyboard with my friend, we had an older lady come out and scolded my friend asking him if he was going to buy the guitar he was looking at. As I was trying the pipe organ setting, on the keyboard, the older lady walked up, told me she was trying to talk to customers, reached over, and powered off the keyboard. I had the keyboard at a very low volume, not to disturb anyone else in the store and if asked would have stopped playing until she had finished talking to customers. I will not be purchasing equipment from a store that is going to treat their customers in such a manner.
Very unwelcoming environment. On more than one occasion, a friend and I went to go browse the guitar selections at the store. Each time we were followed around by the older woman until we left, even though we said we were just looking, and was asked to leave our things at the door in case we were to try steal anything. We were also spoken to as if we were to poor to play the decent guitars. I've never been treated like that in a musical instrument store before. I won't say it's a race thing, but it sure felt familiar...
Took my MIJ jazzmaster to Dove for repairs it was having a ton of electrical problems, after 24hrs it was completely re-wired and working great. I will be taking every guitar here from now on if it needs work that I can’t do !
I've had over twenty years of dealing with Lillo's music and not one bad experience. I don't make to Edmonton often but when I do I make it a point to stop by. Vic the owner rolls out the red carpet for everyone that walks through the store. As an independently owned store you might not find everything you're looking for but you're almost guaranteed to find something. It's worth it just to check out the eye candy on the wall. I hope to have another twenty plus years shopping here.
Very dissatisfied with the service I received here. You're either treated very well or very poorly. Stay away from their guitar tech and repair services. It's overpriced and they do dodgey work.
Very dissatisfied with my multuple experiences here. I bring in my accordion which is in need of repair. The biggest issue was that notes would be played without pressing any keys, and a few keys would stick open, meaning they would be played after releasing them. Several reeds also needed replacing. I explicitly tell Mrs. Lilo this, and ask for a quote. She says maximum $200-$300. After the repairs, the bill is $485, which is not even close to the specified range. Whatever. I bring it home, and less than a week later, the exact same keys stick open, and reeds are still being played when no keys are being pressed. Several reeds still sound awful, even after she informed me that "most reeds were replaced". I can not even fathom what they did to it to cost $485. I can't take it back because they close for an extended period in the summer right after I picked it up. Life moves forward, it goes on the backburner, and the accordion still sits in awful condition. The first time I went into Lilo's, I had a conversation with Vic Lilo. And he writes down EVERYTHING I tell him. My name and instrument I play, which is innocent enough. I give him details about the instruments, which he writes down, which is no big deal. He asks where I go to school high school at the time, and writes that down. It's getting weird, but I decide to see how far he takes it. He then asks where I work, so I tell him the name, the type of venue, and the street it is located on. He writes every god damn bit of information down that comes out of my mouth. After leaving, I tell this experience to a music friend, and he says the exact same thing happened when him and a colleague went. They ended up staying and browsing, and Vic directly followed them around the store everywhere they went. The third time I was there, I asked Mrs. Lilo some questions about the vintage guitars they have behind glass. She was either uninformed, lazy, or didn't value my time enough to answer them. I asked for specific details on the Gretsch Country Gentleman they had, and she gave me surface information that I included in my question. This happened twice more, so I finally lost patience and just asked "how much are you selling it for?" because they don't have prices. She then replied "a lot". I said "four or five figures?" She said "probably that, yeah". I've never met an owner of a store who cared so little about talking to potential customers, and I'm willing to bet there aren't many worse than this. The absolute last time I went into the store, a guy wouldn't let me try out an acoustic. He asked "are you here to buy or here to play?" I replied with "I've been browsing several stores now and am in the market for one". He said "if you aren't buying you shouldn't play". Go to any other store such as Avenue Guitars or Long and McQuade, and see if they treat you the same. These experiences have all been spaced out over the last 3 years. I have tried to have an open mind whenever I return, but it always results in a poor experience. I am absolutely astounded that some people have positive experiences here, because they don't seem to make the slightest effort. They also sell Fender knockoffs and unlicensed products because "it's cheaper than the real thing" as indicated by Mrs. Lilo herself.
Paid 21.99 for D'addario silk and steel acoustic guitar strings and later realized the exact same strings are only 13.50 at Long and McQuaid. I would definitely be sure to at the very least check prices elsewhere before buying anything here. I definitely would have been better off just going to the Long and McQuaid two doors over.
I have been buying my instruments from here for over a decade. Love the vintage feel and the Hey Hey Hey greeting when I go see Victor Lillo. Sometimes you get lucky and get to meet a celebrity that shops here like Joe Perry from Aerosmith.
Very excellent service! Would love to come back anytime I need to
I have been a customer going here for years a while back I droppped off one my guitars for a complete set up and what a rip off it was they took what should have been a 60.00 job turned into an over 100.00 job and asked for a 50.00 deposit Before they would start work on it and i was told it would only take 2 days to get fixed but it ended up taking a few days longer with no Explanation on why the repairs was taking so long had I got an explanation I would have issued a stop work order and would have taken it somewhere else and when I finally got the call to go pick it up after a lengthy Delay I went to pick it up with the final bill totalling over 100.00 it still looked liked a cheap 60.00 job for now on I will be taking my business to another music shop for all my music needs its like I said I have been a customer here for years but never agin if you want over priced repairs for cheap work and over priced music gear that claims to be new and used then half the time it doesn’t work then this is the go to place lillos has really gone down hill
