What a pleasant surprise! Randomly selected Joe Fortes in Whistler based on 4.5 star google rating and found it to be wonderful…great service and quality of food. My wife had the steelhead trout, cooked perfectly and I had the shrimp linguine. We do not do fine dining often but appreciate good food and this was excellent. Had the pleasure of meeting Jude the manager, very personable and friendly. We highly recommend.
This place was absolutely amazing. I read through the one star review to see why people didn’t like it. I had to laugh at most of them and some of the rest were probably the competitors making comments. Every single thing that was put on our table was absolutely phenomenal. The service by Ryan was stellar and it was a great environment. Is the food slower to come out than it is from a “dump it out of a can” restaurant? Yup. Most of the negative critiques must not be familiar with what it takes to actually prepare a meal from scratch in a restaurant. It isn’t gonna be super fast so if you want that, go to a place that slops it out of cans and enjoy your super fast service. Otherwise, sit back, relax, enjoy your time with the people you are with and savor the delicious food.
We went for Happy Hour, and ordered few dishes from happy hour menu. Our favorites were oysters, and cocktail shrimps. Very fresh like just coming out from ocean. We ordered the platter first, but because the oysters were so good, we ordered 2 dozens more! They served Kusshi oysters that day. The steamed mussels were a little disappointing compare to oysters and cocktail shrimp. Mussels seems like they were not cooked in the sauce enough. It feels like the seafood and sauce were separate, not blended well. Truffle fries were so so. Lobster&shrimp roll was good, but more like filler. Our server was lovely, I wish I could remember her name. She was very attentive, and kept an eye on our table. Not too much, not too little. Just perfect. It was in the afternoon on Aug 26th. A big thanks to her! She also caught my word that I mentioned about my partners bday, and she brought a little treat to wish him a bday. We were so glad Joe Fortes opened in Whistler. This is a definitely the one I would always choose to go when I visit the village again!
Fun spot for dinner in Whistler. The vibe is old school high end, dark atmosphere and excellent formal service. The food was well prepared, just a bit conventional. Very tasty, though! I forgot to photograph the beef carpaccio appetizer, which was perhaps the highlight, so good. Of the entrees, my favorite was the chicken with brussels sprouts. And my compliments to the waiter, who was attentive but never intrusive, he really struck the perfect balance and delivered great service.
While enjoying a great dinner here last year in Whistler, this evening we had the most contrary and disappointing experience. We were greeted warmly by a server who introduced us to our drink menus, but we were later served by an unfriendly waiter who seemed to take our order in a condescending manner and never smiled. When requesting for a half dozen oysters, he didn't provide any detail on selection options and suggested only the Kusshi's which were truly fresh and delicious. Both our trout and pork chop were well prepared, but the server never offered fresh ground pepper nor did he follow up on how things tasted. Also we made note on our reservation that we were celebrating an "anniversary"; however, the waiter brought over two complimentary truffles with "Happy Birthday" written and simply said, "I hear there is a birthday here" and walked away. After our desserts were served, we somehow became invisible to the entire service staff. We waited for nearly 10 minutes to try and order some coffee to enjoy along with our dessert. Nobody seemed to notice two diners sitting without touching their desserts. We gave up and finished our desserts and waited for another 10 minutes for the bill where we needed to wave down a hostess who walked by. Our bill was brought but there was no follow up with a payment machine by anyone. Another 10 minutes later, we then flagged down the manager who happened to walk by. We relayed our disappointment to the manager, but he didn't seem to care or ask how they can improve things in the future. I should also add that this restaurant was well staffed and it should not be an excuse for sub-par service. This is quite sad as the restaurant has been able to maintain such an outstanding reputation thus far. Hopefully, we were just the unlucky ones tonight and others can enjoy their experience here.
Food 8/10 Ordered a whiskey on the rocks, which was quite solid. The lobster rolls were divine and so were the oysters, especially at that price. Super fresh. The seafood platter was very lovely too, with a lot of different flavors and seasonings. Honestly a very solid happy hour, would recommend it if you're ever here! Atmosphere 9/10 Dim lighting, dark brown wooden furniture. Love the vibes. Service 9/10 Our server was extremely accommodating, as we had originally sat down at a table of four, but two more of our friends wanted to join, and they were able to add two extra chairs and accommodate us. A very busy scene, so definitely come early. Gave great recommendations and was very helpful.
Great food and service! We had the seafood tower and loved it. Very fresh and even the appetizer bread had an awesome lobster oil dipping sauce as well that was a treat.Food: 5/5
Looking for a place to have dinner in Whistler as visitors, I stumbled upon Joe Fortes. It was very easy and quick to make a reservation. The prices, food, and service were overall solid, with the service being the standout performer here. They offer a good variety for food orders including the chef's menu of app, main and dessert at very reasonable prices. If the chef's menu stands out to you, definitely a bang for the buck. Steak was cooked to medium rare-rare though ordered as medium. It was still good, but important to note. Overall, would recommend it as a good budget, nice dinner in Whistler.
We went during happy hour, The food was amazing. The staff were attentive. I like itFood: 5/5
February Winter of Whistler. Nicely decorated place! Oysters are fresh & good, not the most valuable but Beef Cappacio taste well with the biscuit and vegs. The lobster bisque is thick and the taste is intense! Steak meat is rather dry. Cooked well but probably the quality of the steak. Seafood Linguini is well cooked.
