Il Padrino is a family-owned and run business, and it definitely gives off that vibe. The restaurant is simple but tastefully decorated, the Godfather music was played at one point got a kick out of that, and the owners have a great spirit to them, very welcoming and friendly as they speak with great knowledge and pride about the food they're about to serve you. Il Padrino is the best kind of family-owned restaurant because it makes you feel like you're in someone's home. Now on to the food. We stopped by for dinner and got: - Complimentary bread: This came in the form of short bread sticks/puffs which my wife loved. I thought they were ok, but was absolutely blown away by how good their homemade chili sauce was. - Burrata Platter: I loved how creamy the burrata was. The side prosciutto was properly salty, but the side sausage was a bit tough. - Polpette di Carne: Huge and hearty meatballs swimming in a pomodoro sauce. Yum! - Cacio e Pepe: I'm not sure whether this was a regional thing, but this cacio e pepe had hardly any cheese in it just on top and couldn't taste any in the sauce. I guess the silver lining was it showcased the tastiness of the noodles, which were excellent. - Prosciutto Pizza: Star of the meal. I absolutely loved how tasty the dough was, so it made sense when the owner said it was a 130+ year, 4 generation old recipe. These are the things that make family-owned restaurants the best! - Tiramisu: Interestingly served in a martini glass, I like how the base tasted almost brownie-like. It's hard to be an Italian restaurant in Little Italy, but Il Padrino doesn't disappoint. The Godfather would be pleased.
One of the best Italian places to visit. All the dishes were amazing but the pizza was out of the world. So was the pasta. Will have to go back for more. We were treated with so much care. All the dishes were explained to us in details. Loved the service. They also serve amazing cocktails . We've never been more buzzed with cocktails before. We also received free complementary lemoncello shots after.
What was good was the tiramisu, although very expensive for the quantity. The owner is also personable. Now what didn't really work was the wait time. We waited 15 min to be seated and we did reserve a table. Then another 15 min for someone to get our order. Then another 45 min to get our food. We had to ask to get the complimentary appetizer and that wasn't even served with the spicy sauce. We were grateful that we pregamed at PG Clucks before we came here. Otherwise, we would've walked out in hunger. Our gnocchi arrived cold and the sauce was pretty mediocre and the lady was trying to skimp on the parmesan cheese and we had to ask twice to get the spicy sauce to add some flavor. Overall, I hope they get their act together and become successful.
This place is a hidden gem, and it's only a matter of time till it's not so hidden. We tried the winterlicious menu, and were absolutely blown away. We tried the polpette de carne veal meatballs, so tender and SO flavourful, Caprese, il Padrino pizza piping hot, so flavourful and fresh, and just the right amount of kick from the chili peppers, the Alfredo with enough garlic in the pasta to keep my soul happy for weeks, the chocolate temptation cake Ecuadorian chocolate for the win and the Tiramisu I'm not even usually a Tiramisu fan and I was won over. The coffee quality truly elevates this dessert and a couple of the standard cocktails. Their limoncello quality is fantastic too. The food is fresh and you can tell everything is made in-house, but what really stays with you is Peter and Connie's service. They made sure we got the nice table since we were on a date, and stayed and chatted about every item we ordered as well as how they built their entire menu. Peter also made sure to send us away with a little care package of extra chilli peppers with my leftovers because I liked it so much. There's a TON of chain restaurants in the city, but if you can choose to go to a place that makes you food as fresh as their own house, make that choice every single time that you can afford to. I know I will.
I came here for a birthday dinner celebration on Saturday January 28, 2023 not knowing what to expect as it was my first time there. The owner was very kind and understanding the whole night while making sure all my 7 guests were cared for. They made my birthday extremely special and from one business owner to another, they have my full respect. All my guests enjoyed the food and service a lot as well. I will certainly be returning and recommending this establishment to others in the future. Thank you for making my birthday as special as can be.
Went here to celebrate with my partner. Food was delicious. Portion sizes great. We had the bruschetta fries and a pizza. We really want to go back to try the pasta though! Wait staff was amazing, and gave us a desert on the house which was very kind! If you go, order the fried dough puffs as an appetizer - not sure what they’re actually called but they were unbelievable! You can tell there is a lot of heart in this restaurant :
We came as a large group and were made to feel very welcome. The food and wine were great, and they were even kind enough to send us home with a whole bunch of their excellent, made-in-house chili oil. Super cozy atmosphere for a lovely night out. Recommend the arancini!
We had a terrific time celebrating our anniversary at iL Padrino. The cocktails were expertly crafted, and the fresh pasta dishes were excellent. We think the espresso martini is one of the best drinks we've ever had, so try one now!
Definitely a great place and amazing chef! Very welcoming and warm folks. Must visit! Vegetarian options: There are good veg options, they can help customize it as well.
Absolutely outstanding restaurant! You can tell it's a family owned business because the flavours could not be duplicated. The staff was so warm and welcoming, and took the time to chat about different cooking styles. Everything was delicious, and so fresh. I came here by accident but I will be intentionally going again and again!
