Love the baked goods but would love to see the hot pasta entrees back! Also the soups! - I’ve noticed a huge drop in quality since 2019. Every order is mostly just spices, salt, water, and starch. There are very little toppings and the texture is incredibly runny, especially for the split pea and ham soup. Would never recommend them. Sandwiches and salads are okay but on the bland side.
Not gonna lie, a not-so-big, leftover, expires-in-a-day breakfast wrap and a small dessert for $10 doesn't sound very good. I wouldn't say anything special about taste either. I was too lazy to buy food elsewhere while I was at IKB, and so this was the best I got. I'll spare this review from the one star because I think I picked the wrong foods. After all, this is a coffee place.
Most of the staff here are friendly and I like the baked goods and salads. I've been picking up my morning coffee here as of late because the line usually moves quickly, but this morning I was charged $7.30 for a medium coffee. I went back to talk to a server a different one from the one that charged me and while they expressed concern by asking who had served me, the woman that served me didn't so much as apologize. I used to be a barista and I know that early morning shifts can throw you off sometimes, but I think that was quite rude. I wasn't offered a refund, but the other server told me that I can take some baked goods to even out the cost.
Compared with the other cafes not residence cafeterias on campus, Ike's has a better selection of hot entrees and overall food. I love their pasta feature and now they have this huge chicken leg/breast for $8. Hot entrees always comes with side salads too. Not a huge fan of their drinks though. Service is speedy. My favorite cafe on campus :
Sometimes I would come by this cafe if I hadn't decided where to have a light lunch. I tried their beef wrap, mac& cheese, salads, and a few drinks. They're all at an average level. During summer season when there were few students, their soup seemed to be reheated for many times, not fresh at all. Once I wanted to get hot water from their dispenser, the staff member gave me an unfriendly look and behaved rudely. If you study in the IKB, and don't want to go far for food, it's a convenient spot. But do not have high expectation; it's just an ordinary cafe with standard campus food and it-depends-on-who-serves-you service quality.
The worst. Please go somewhere else. Coffee tastes like cardboard, REALLY overpriced mediocre food, chicken is all fat and gristle, pasta tastes like hard crunchy paper. Your money is worth way more than what they are charging you- yes it's convenient, but it's so bad. Staff are also RUDE.
Asked a employee nicely if there was a microwave in the building and she replied rudely that there "wassint but that I could just buy something". Ok so not all students have money to buy food? Also why not put a microwave for use in IKB??? I'm sure in that huge dining area there is room for one, and I'm sure I'm the only one who loves having to walk all the way to the life building when studying just to heat up my food
Lines here can get long, but they are dealt with fairly efficiently. As others have mentioned, their hot food is surprisingly good for a little cafe. The samosas are the hidden treasure of the IKBLC.
The coconut tofu veg curry was really good. It's good to order their daily specials as they seem most fresh and the cheapest too. It was very filling! Only $6.70
Ro is amazing, and my day is considerably better after her amazing customer service. I'm not one to write reviews often, but I found Ro to be deserving of recognition. Thank you and I look forward to coming back soon!
