Highland Grill

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! Was expecting more of a diner with classic diner food, but got a great spot with a tasty, interesting menu with fresh and locally sourced ingredients. We've been here for breakfast and lunch and have absolutely loved everything we've tried on the menu. Food, coffee, service, and decor are all wonderful. Only downside is they don't have a parking lot, but we've found nearby street parking both times we've been.

Highland Grill has a cute cafe/grill feeling. They get the atmosphere of a upbeat, cheery and causal place right. I would recommend that it is good for small groups of five or less, for the size of the place, larger groups might be harder to accommodate. There were two families near us with small children and they seemed perfectly welcomed. On Saturday evening, the place was packed between 6-7pm but the crowd died down quickly after 7:15. Even with the business of it, our actual wait time for a table for 4 around 6pm was only 7 minutes. The food was good - half of our group cleaned their plates. From peering over at my friend's meals - I'd say that they do breakfast all day well. Their beer list is nice, with a good selection of local/regional beers as well as variety in the styles (Black Ale, Brown Ale, IPA, ect). I particularly appreciated that it wasn't just a hops-apocalypse list. The things that kept me from rating this place at 5 stars were: service and taste. Though our server was kind, he was rather slow and inattentive. I had their Asian Salad which had a good crunch with Ramen Noodles on top but didn't have anything that made me want to come back for it again. Another person in the group ordered it with the dressing on the side and was disappointed in the lack of flavor in the dish beyond the dressing. It wasn't offensive, but it wasn't great.

Great food as always. Breakfast anytime and some breakfasts are spectacular. The carrot cake is also fabulous if you habe room for dessert
