TWO LEVELS!!!! Don’t miss the basement! I love this New and used book store and record shop. There’s lots of gems for all ages here and all price ranges. This store is part of the cute modern Essendene shopping area.
If you love music, this is a great store! Staff are friendly, knowledgeable...and there are hidden gems everywhere! Regardless of genre, you will definitely find something of interest...if not what you came for. Be sure to bring a little extra cash.... impulse purchases are definitely the norm at Hemminways!
I've been going here since I was a kid, and the new staff have ruined the place. Almost everything they sell now are new books and overpriced, basic vinyls. They also no longer keep store credit on file when you bring in books to trade, and they do some shady things. I bought a big hardcover here that, unbeknownst to me at the time, had a huge rip in the dust jacket. I didn't see it when I bought it because they'd strategically placed the price sticker over the damaged area. This used to be one of my favourite used book stores, but I sadly won't be returning.
Beautifully organized book store. I can even smell the books. All the books are categorized very well and I love the summaries and little notes included with the books. The records in the basement are organized good as well, it's like a totally different store. I personally don't collect records but they had both new and used. I felt like I was in my grandparent's basement when I was down there lol
**edit looks like the owner has responded they will take the broken vinyl back, which took me calling in getting a no and then writing a poor review to get my money back for a broken product. I will call to confirm but I won't be removing this bad review as this was a terrible experience overall. Purchased a vinyl before I went on vacation and tried it out when I got back and every song skipped. Called and spoke to Leon and asked I could replace it or get my money back and was told there is a firm 2 week return policy. First time buying from this store. Beware they have a terrible return policy! I now have a product that is useless that I spent $35 on. Ive purchased several records and I've never had an issue. I could've chose Amazon and been able to return it. A very disappointing experience and I will not be a returning.
The staff at this store is always friendly. They have a large selection of all genres of books, and manga. A decent selection of records and small inventory of dvds, blurays, and even a few games... Really low prices and a must visit for any avid reader
This place has really gone downhill. I used to be a regular for vinyl, now they never have anything and it's just not even worth checking out. It's like when the competition up the road closed down they gave up too.
Love this bookstore. Great service, loads of records downstairs. I've even found books I've needed for courses here.
the store is very well organised with their books and records. their record collection is neat and they’ll assist you if you can’t find something. i’ve bought a handful of records from them and they work pretty well! their book collection is pretty vast and worth their price too. if you ever go to hemingway’s make sure you visit the basement, they’ve got a crazy good collection of non-fiction and factual books down there! super helpful when you need a quick read on something!
Clean, friendly and very well organized. Staff were helpful and on top of their inventory. Lots of vinyl records downstairs, if you're a collector.
