An arts club housed in a heritage hall in the heart of Toronto's Yorkville. Organized by women (since 1909), but with public events open to all.
The Toronto Heliconian Club is the oldest association of its kind in Canada, founded in 1909 to give women engaged in arts and letters an opportunity to come together to discuss, enjoy, and further interests (in art, dance, drama, humanities, literature. and music). The Club still holds to its original purpose, but is evolving—men attending many of its public programmes. The beautiful Heliconian Hall (the Club's epicentre) has charitable status and is a popular venue that can be rented for a variety of non-member happenings from weddings to business gatherings.
Mission:
Women supporting, championing, and providing inspiration in the arts
(since 1909)
Vision:
The Heliconian Club is a hub of arts-based activity and appreciation that reveres quality, respects tradition and welcomes innovation. It plays an active role in wider community initiatives and maintains an outreach program.
Women Living In The Arts
Members are women involved in the arts, out of town and those under 36 are at reduced rates. "Artists in Residence" become full members for the term of their residency. We encourage potential members to sample our activities, meet those involved, then consider joining. The Club is evolving, and an exciting and friendly place to be! If you like our building as much as we do, there are also rental opportunities. It is a popular locale for business meetings, weddings, community gatherings, and much much more.
