For the kids we also offer pony rides, a petting zoo & playgrounds. Hatfield Farm is the perfect setting for your child’s next birthday party, or just a fun, family outing!

Our Fort Clayton boasts a 5000 ft. sq. foot lodge/restaurant serving a selection of mouth-watering meals. Fort Clayton is also the home of our indoor games centre “The Rubber Rodeo”, mini golf, fire pits....and we can even accommodate overnight guests in our cozy cabins and bunkhouses!

HORSEBACK RIDING

Enjoy our many horseback riding options offered at Hatfield Farm. Head out along our woodland trails and enjoy the peaceful outdoors on one of our multi-level trail rides. Attend one of our riding classes and learn the ropes of basic horseback riding & care. Or introduce your kids to the wonderful world of horses on one of our pony rides.

Trail Rides

Available year round. Even if you haven’t ridden before, we’ll have you in the saddle and on the trail at a pace you feel comfortable with in no time. We have horses to suit all shapes and sizes of riders and for all experience levels too. The minimum age for trail rides is 8 years old, however, children of all ages are welcome to come and enjoy our pony rides.

Head out along our woodland trails at a pace you feel comfortable with. Enjoy the peaceful outdoors on horseback. Riders must be 8 years old and over, with the exception of pony rides, which are available to all ages.

Available 7 days a week. Cancellation 24 hours prior to departure. Reservations must be made 48 hours in advance for all departures.

Breakaway from the crowd and enjoy a private ride with one of our guides. Please call in advance to book your private ride, reservations are required, min of 2 people required - 4:40PM departure only.

Riding Lessons

We offer riding lessons for beginner and intermediate riders. Each lesson is one hour long and covers grooming, tacking, horsemanship and western riding. The minimum age for riding lessons is 8 years old. Please call in advance to book your riding lesson, reservations are required.

HISTORY OF HATFIELD FARM

Hatfield Farm was founded in 1992 by Brian Hatfield. The farm is located near Baptizing Lake where his great-grandfather Clifford and brother operated a steam mill. In the early 1940’s, Clifford’s sons Clayton and Owen built their own mill on the property where Hatfield Farm is now located. Clifford died in 1943 and Clayton and Owen continued the business of Eisenhauer Brothers Box Manufacturing.

Logging occurred throughout Hammonds Plains on various different properties. As a young boy, Brian would go to work with his grandfather Clayton in the woods. Many aspects of Hatfield Farm today have their roots in this period.

Take, for example, how Clayton would make a fire in a barrel and build a shelter around the fire using spruce or fir bows to keep the wind off everyone’s backs while they ate their lunches, sitting on feed bags filled with straw to stay warm. Today, you’ll notice Brian has built walls around the outdoor campfires at Fort Clayton and places feed bags on the benches so our guests can stay warm and enjoy the fire.

The mill closed after Clayton retired in 1979 while Brian was still a young boy; however, a few years ago Brian was gifted an Oxford Mill and was taught to saw lumber. It took him over 10,000 board feet to learn but now when he has the opportunity to saw logs he describes it as being like Christmas morning! The crew at the farm always see a smile on Brian’s face when he’s going to work in the woods to cut logs.

Over the past 20 years, under Brian’s leadership, Hatfield Farm has grown from a simple trail ride outlet to a popular tourist attraction welcoming over 60,000 people from all over the globe each year. Staff at the farm learned their love of Hatfield Farm from Brian and his family and try to provide our customers with an unforgettable experience every time they visit us.
