Half Price Books

I loved going here when I was in the area. the gentleman that worked here was very nice and helpful to find specific books. Unfortunately he was let go. However, i went today, the first time in two years to sell a bag full of books, some not even touched. We didn't even get to take half of them out when she told us she couldn't take any of them, and informed us they have to be in VERY VERY good condition. Basically don't bother, unless you're buying brand new books that are sealed in plastic and never touched and then sell it to her for a terrible amount. I will go the extra distance to go somewhere else to sell and buy. Anyone with ideas?

Last month I would've given Half Price Books a great review and in hind sight perhaps I should have. There's a lad who worked there who is very personable and very helpful. Always willing to help me find a book. Made shopping there pleasurable. Today I stopped in thinking that I'd see if I could sell a couple of my books. First time I've remembered. I was shocked at how little I was offered and decided that I'd rather (and will) donate them to the Oshawa Library for their semi-annual book sale. But, I figured what the hey, I would still come back to shop, just not to sell......and then, as I was taking my books back, the elderly lady at the counter took GREAT glee in informing me the lad isn't employed there anymore. Wow. I was gobsmacked. She was well pleased. Will I go back? Nope. .... and I cannot nor will not give Half Price Books a great review. Not anymore. Good luck lad in whatever you choose to do.

Very well organized for such a small book store. There is a huge variety of new and used. Prices are fair. The guy didn't greet us when we went in.

I like the store and the cost is ok. But if you're going in to sell your USED books... Don't bother. We went in with a big bin of books, told they'd call in half an hour... Went back an hour later and she said she couldn't take ANY of them as they were too well read - but none of them had even been moved in the bin, and several almost new were in there. She couldn't be bothered, is all. 1 star for huge customer service failure.
