I’ve heard about this restaurant for quite some time in Vancouver and always wanted to try it when I visit Toronto. Finally got the chance to try. The decorations of restaurant is nostalgic and instantly brought back my childhood memories of having dim sum with my family. Their menu has many traditional dim sum that not easy to find in other restaurants even in Vancouver. The food & service is excellent and the price is much more affordable than the west coast. The duck drumstick noodles taste wonderful and the portion was generous. I couldn’t believe it’s only cost $12.50! Definitely will go back again whenever I’m in Toronto!
Overall this place is accommodating for large groups. The food here I would say is above average for the price. Service was ok but it's only when they are busy service gets... Better. The atmosphere here definitely shows it's time frame. I would suggest to the owners/ managers to, at least tidy the front. It looks as if they are moving out? And running an office at the front? Could do better with appearance.
This restaurant is a pretty classic dimsum hub. They have a ton of tables meant for large parties of 8-12, but I’m sure they have tiny 2-4 person tables as well. They offer special live performances on Chinese New Years such as a “fortune god” and lion dancers. In terms of food, they have most of the standard items alongside clay pot rice. It’s dimsum menu has a few items that are a bit harder to find… like black pepper pork stomach and deep fried dace balls with clam sauce. They also have some good desserts like steamed milk with ginger, mini egg tarts and salted egg sesame balls! Overall it’s a nice spot with decent food!
Great Chinese restaurant with friendly staff and high quality dishes. Shark fin and abalone were very good when I was there. It’s long lasting presence in Richmond Hill shows it’s quality and proven track record.
Had dinner here on a Friday night and the restaurant was full! Portion was big, the steam fish was 2.5 lbs each! Bbq duck is a must try, they make it in house. Overall I will definitely be back to try their famous abalone and sea cucumber!
Golden Court is an ageless wonder in the Richmond Hill restaurant scene. It's been around for two decades as a pillar along Hwy 7. We often take its presence for granted, opting for newer places to dine among the plethora of options. But what does it take to be a local staple? I guess it's top-notch dim sum, along with dinner & banquet meals. For dinner, our Diced Beef with Honey and Chilli Pepper was akin to well-done steak with some chew to draw out the sweet sauce & meat juice. Plenty of broccoli & cashews accompanied the dish. Stir Fried Grouper Brisket was served in a sizzling claypot with mushrooms. I enjoyed the crispy coating & teriyaki flavour but cuts were too bony w/o much fillet. Stir Fried Shrimps with cashew nuts was a lighter dish with heaping portions of fresh veggies for good contrast. We had a bit of trouble scouring the menu for something that tickled our fancy. Dinner dishes didn't blow us away, but the attentive service was pleasant with frequent plate changes. I think they could do a better job of advertising their seasonal seafood variety. Sparse tables were seated with regulars who knew the staff. Dish plates were huge, so we were stuffed after the taro sago, mango jelly, and almond cookies offered for dessert. All in all, a mixed review after setting foot at the Golden Court again. Its entrance is anchored by stone lions & a fancy interior door for a grand impression, while the decor is reminiscent of classic Cantonese restaurants that serve as banquet halls. Such details perhaps we overlooked while competing for dim sum in the packed house on past visits!
Golden Court has been around for years and they still serve some very traditional dim sum dishes and uses old school techniques which is a quickly disappearing from the industry. We tried several dishes and will highlight a few: - siu mai: made with pork, shrimp and mushrooms and you can see cubes of hand cut pork fat. they don't machine blend the meat into a mousse so the texture is good, and they still mushrooms which is rare nowadays. - quail egg siu mai: very traditional and hard to find at restaurants these days. - cotton chicken: another traditional but disappearing dish. the fish maw was slightly under and could be more tender but the flavours were good and the chicken was silky. - dried shrimp and scallions cheung fun: a classic but they use a lot of dried shrimp which is good. - fried zhong glutinous rice dumpling: a labour intensive dim sum which was presented in a nest-like crispy shell that was light and crisp. lots of filling inside and good control of the oil temperature so it didn't feel greasy. - baked sago pudding with lotus seed paste: a hard to find dim sum dessert and this one was pretty good. sago was chewy and the sweetness was right, but it was a bit too firm. - bean curd roll: the filling and flavours were good but it wasn't braised/steamed enough so the bean curd wrapper was chewy - Har Gow: the wrapper was breaking apart and nothing particularly memorable about this one. Service is quite good here. it's clear many of the staff members have been working here a while and they're friendly, attentive and efficient.
Excellent friendly service. Highly customizable dishes always surprise everyone. Must make reservations ahead of time.Recommended dishesKoi Shape Mango Pudding, Almond Cookies, Red Bean Soup Dessert, Assotment of Dim Sum
Recommended by friend for dim sum lunch while visiting Toronto, good recommendation Dim sum is authentic and ingredients are all fresh. Price is reasonable, value for money! Will be there again for next trip to Toronto
Dim sum is ordinary, except the veggie bean curb wraps. There should be much better ones in Toronto. I only stay here for a few days. I will try to taste more.Food: 3/5
