Gardiner Museum

About

The Gardiner Museum is Canada's national ceramics museum and one of the world's great specialty museums.

Story

The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art was opened in 1984 by George and Helen Gardiner to house their collection of ancient American artifacts and European pottery and porcelain.

Between 1987 and 1996 it was managed by the Royal Ontario Museum, but a generous endowment from George Gardiner allowed it to regain its independence.

Attendance, membership, and program participation more than doubled over the next seven years, and the Museum became an important centre for ceramics in North America. The Museum was closed from 2004 to 2006 for a major expansion. Today the Museum boasts an expanding permanent collection, a full schedule of exhibitions and programs, and a growing audience.

Nice small museum located not far from the ROM. Went on a friday after 4pm and admission is 50% off 4-9 pm on fridays which is a bonus. Although small it takes time as lots of beautiful things to look at and read about. Was not crowed and was able to take our time at a relaxed pace.

Best 15$ spent on a museum. The tremendous amount of porcelain and ceramic collections, and all the knowledge shared makes this visit appealling for both ignorants and experts on pottery.

I saw ad for Free family event on Sunday, but when we get there, we were told adult has to buy ticket for $15 each, then the kids can join.... I don't think this is correct way to attract customer.
