I went to AGO Art Gallery of Ontario today, and it is a must visit when in Toronto… Beautiful arts installed from famous artists from here and there! I will not ruin the excitement for you, so just goooo! You can thank me later…nnAhhh, what an amazing day! I love love love everything at AGO! I wish they acknowledge senior discount though… Anyway, thanks for being there with all the amazing staff I came across with!
They make it accessible especially with the free admission on the first Wednesday of each month!nnHowever you can also enjoy it with less people or on your own time with paid admission which is quite reasonable.nnI have to say the volunteers and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. One in particular gave amazing hints on finding a particular artwork and even taught us how to view the and enjoy the painting. It was educational and adventurous!nnGreat place for young and old and we are so lucky to have the AGO!
This is a superb museum. We arrived hungry and had a first class lunch at the Bistro an amazing celleric soup, salmon nicoise very tasty, and lemon cake with pear, raspberry and mascarpone. All for $49 Canadian.nnThen on to the exhibits. The Blackwood prints are outstanding! He created amazing effects with many different techniques and passes through the press. The results created fantastic images of people in nature. These are an absolute must-see in Toronto. The exhibit even had scent boxes to experience what his seaside scenes and his studio smelled like. That was a first in our museum experiences. Bravo for innovation!
Modern yet very confusing.nI was not able to find the art peaces numbered as a must see in the AGO map. The rooms are confusing for first time attendance.nHowever, I am sure after few visits it will be more familiar.nPrice is excellent - $40 for annual membership.nCafeteria prices are ridiculous..nAs for exhibits - some are excellent and some - well this is were tastes collide. It is nice though, that there are a few exhibits at the same time.nNevertheless, I recommend everyone to visit AGO.nGo train Union Station is only two subway stops away or approximately 1.7 km walk, which is truly doable and makes it a nice stroll.
The museum features a modest selection of classical works and early paintings by Claude Monet and Picasso. However, its true allure lies in the architectural experience—most notably the wooden spiral staircase, which evokes the fluidity of water, reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s organic designs. Equally captivating is the expansive collection of Henry Moore’s sculptures, which anchor the museum’s identity. Beyond these highlights, much of the collection can be browsed quickly. Still, the visit is well worth 1–2 hours.
