The drinks, food, and vibe are so nice we had to go twice. We celebrated our anniversary at Garde Manger, and were thoroughly impressed. The vibe was energetic, fun, and relaxed. Louis, the bartender was charming, attentive, and mixed great drinks. Each dish was well designed with clear, vibrant flavors, and excellently executed. We had such a great time that, after an early dinner the next night, we decided to try our luck and walked in for a late supper. If you are in Montreal and have one dinner to splurge, book Garde Manger now. Don't miss the mushroom appetizer and the deer venison tartare, the Nordic shrimp is also amazingly refreshing. And, please, get the coffee cake dessert. And if you have two dinners to splurge, book Garde Manger twice!
Great friendly service, amazing seafood tower. Fresh and delicious! Great wine parings too. Went here for dinner, fun and casual atmosphere, but still dark and intimate. Servers suggested great cocktails, and wine pairings. Had the seafood tower, scallops, sweetbread, octopus, lobster ravioli. Was all delicious! Would definitely return for a another visit. The location is slightly hard to find in Old Montreal, with a small sign off the street. Recommend getting a reservation.
Wow Wow Wow!!! As a foodie in Montreal, this is hands down the best restaurant. I can’t wait to come back already for every celebration in the future. We got the tasting menu and we were so full by the end and amazed by the plates. Every dish was special and packed with great flavors. Our server Rebecca was kind and thoughtful, she had great knowledge with choosing our wine for the night. 5 stars!!!
Another excellent evening at Garde Manger. This was my second visit to the restaurant the first was several years ago on another trip to Montreal and the food was just as delicious as the first time, and the service just as friendly. I particularly liked the fresh black cod, and the homemade sourdough bread was very addictive. This place was cozy and relaxing and a bit hidden away in Old Montreal, which added to its appeal. My only disappointment was that Chef Chuck didn't stop by either time, but I will definitely be back for another great meal the next time I visit the city!
Sometimes the hype around a restaurant kills the actual experience of being there. This is probably true of Garde Manger. Food was fine but the experience did not meet the raving reviews that I had heard. We made a reservation in advance but ended up in a corner booth which was not comfortable. The idea of not having a menu bothered some of the folks in the group but I was cool with the idea of reading off the black board. Service : Our waitress was phenomenal! She was efficient, funny and kept the conversation going as we placed our orders. Definitely a highlight! Food : We tried a lot of appetizers - portions were small which led us to order more. For an entree, I tried the pork tenderloin with jalapeno grits which was the only dish i really liked. The rest of our group tried their different offerings - seafood, steak. Food tasted good but the overall experience did not live up to the expectations. Ambience : For a fine dining restaurant, our table for 5 was too cramped and we did not enjoy it. The restaurant is highly sought after and is crowded at all times. Its not easy to find the restaurant since they do not have a sign upfront. Its an unassuming door and just follow your GPS. Pricing : Expensive. Don't mind paying the price as long as there is value in the experience. Will I return? : Maybe, to entertain.
Oh my goodness, this place is truly amazing. Expensive but worth every penny. Loved not only the food and drinks but atmosphere and service too! My friend and I agreed it was the highlight of our trip to Montreal. Our favourite and must-have has to be the beef cheeks and the cauliflower scallop dishes. My heart still dreams of it… Please do yourself a favour and order it. Reservations recommended.
I had the chef menu and had a good experience overall. The food was good, I’d say this is a “can’t go wrong” kind of restaurant, but you’d also expect that with the $100+ price tag. I’d recommend it for special occasions!
The food was very delicious. We enjoyed every dish. The service was good - they were accommodating to kids. The restaurant is pretty dark, so food looks better in person.
You know a place must be good when there is no signage out front. Our experience at Garde Manger was simply phenomenal. If you’re able to, the chef menu is absolutely worth the price. We did the $130 option, which our amazing server, Jihan referred to as a “trust fall” into the hands of an incredibly talented kitchen staff. The flavours, freshness of ingredients, and presentation of each dish was all top-notch and served by an attentive, caring, and professional front-of-house team. Highlights for us included the smoked sturgeon pate, main course scallops with corn, and coffee cake. For a once in a lifetime gastronomic experience, this is the place to be in MTL.
One of, if not, the best restaurant in Montréal. Ignore anyone who's left a 1 star review. They simply do not understand fine cuisine. Took my partner here for her birthday and it was definitely one of my best decisions to date. We went all out. Be prepared to when you come here because everything is beyond excellent. Order the Chef's Menu with the Grand Deluxe Seafood Platter. We're pescatarian and the chefs catered to our diet no questions asked. They went above and beyond. We sat at the bar and hung out with the staff all night. An excellent group of amazing people filled with culinary passion. Master bar tender and oyster expert. The energy and ambience of the environment is addictive. I will take anyone traveling here, business meetings will be here and celebratory events happening here. The meal was one of the best culinary experiences I have had in my life. Everything screamed local culture. A night we'll never forget. Looking forward to the next meal here soon. Extra special shoutout to the staff for taking such excellent care of us. Can't wait to see you guys again. Dietary restrictions: Let the kitchen know and they'll cater to you no questions asked.
