Frenchglen Hotel State Heritage Site

About

Open March 15th thru October 31st

Story

The Frenchglen Hotel is operated by John Ross and Kelly Everhart and is an excellent place to make your headquarters while exploring the beautiful Steens Mountain, or for your hunting, fishing, rockhounding, bird watching activities. The Hotel is located 60 miles south of Burns, Oregon on paved highway 205. Here at the Frenchglen Hotel, we are committed to being sure that your stay here is a comfortable and enjoyable one. The Hotel is a quiet wayside in a busy and hectic world. The historic Hotel was originally constructed in 1916, and while it has changed a lot, primarily a significant addition by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, it remains a timeless haven for travelers some ninety-plus years later.
Our meals demonstrate that simple fare imaginatively prepared can bring you back again and again. A sampling of our Family Style Dinners include herb baked chicken, our down home pot roast served with "garlicky" roasted potatoes or Johns' moms' potatoes. To top off dinner we will have one of our great homemade desserts such as Marion berry cobbler, Pineapple Upside Down Cake or our delicious Better Than Sex Cake. Our family style dinner is served at 6:30 pm, each night of the week. Since we can only seat 30, reservations are a must. Dinner is a great place to meet and get to know your fellow guests.
While our amenities are few-we don't have T.V. or telephones- we do have cell phone reception and even WiFi (you have to sit on the deck of Drovers' Inn to get it but the view from up there is amazing).
While visiting our hotel be prepared to be very busy visiting all the nearby attractions such as the majestic Steens Mountain, the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Alvord Desert, Round Barn Visitor Center and the many hot springs as well as historical sites. We have a number of brochures available at the Hotel which will help you plan activities during your stay.
Rooms: Full Size Bed $73.00 per night; Full Size Bed & Single $80
Breakfast served 7:30 am - 9:30 am, Lunch served 11:30 am - 2:30 pm and Family Style Dinner served at 6:30 pm with reservation only ($22-$25 per person)

The best (and only) place to stay in Frenchglen. It's not particularly fancy but has a great charm, good food, and wonderful people.

This is a quaint hotel that feels like visiting a family member's home. The meals are family-style and everyone sits at large tables together. This is an excellent opportunity to meet others from local ranchers, the rest of the U.S., or even the world. There are lots of birders, hikers, or fisherman that stay there and it makes it easy to make new friends or find additional adventure buddies. The accommodations are simple, but comfortable. There isn't a bar, but they keep a decent selection of beer and wine available for purchase. The Steens Mountain Road access is right by the hotel, which is great. However, bring effective pest repellent because the mosquitos are bad. Also, bring lots of sunscreen. Most everything you will do is exposed to the sun. That said, bring a hydration system for water. You'll need it! Bottom line? If you're looking for a place to stay that doesn't involve camping, this is an excellent and unique option!

Nice little place to sit down and grab a bite before you go hiking or out for a long drive. Enjoy the building and it's style, there are unfortunately not many people like this anymore.
