American Cancer Society Discovery Shop helps support the fight against cancer through the sale of high quality, gently used, donated merchandise.

Story

Operated by local volunteers, the Discovery Shop of Kalamazoo, Mich. has provided unique and quality merchandise at affordable prices to the community

This quality resale shop is owned and operated by the American Cancer Society, and run by volunteers from the local community. Some volunteers have been with the shop since it opened in 1991. All merchandise in the Discovery Shop is donated by community members who want to support the mission of the American Cancer Society. Proceeds raised from the sale of donated items are used to help fund cancer research and local programs and services.

Located in the Westwood Plaza on West Main in Kalamazoo, the shop offers a variety of merchandise including clothing, accessories, jewelry, books, furniture, and collectables. Donations of these items are always accepted during business hours of Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

We volunteers love it at the Discovery Shop. Our repeat customers are what keeps us coming back....PLUS...we all shop there too!! It's easy to find quality clothing pieces from premier designers...and many items are brand new with tags still on! If you're looking for special serving dishes or cocktail and other glasses, you will find them at the shop. Retro, mid-century, modern, and all genres represented. Please stop by and check out our inventory!! We'll also treat you like the special person you are!! Y'all get in here and see us, ya hear!!
The Discovery Shop is the best! They have exceptional merchandise that is impeccable, stylish and always a great value. When prices have gone up and up during inflation, the DS has remained on of the few who have not. The volunteer staff is courteous and attentive. They welcome you into the store and are always cheerful. I always donate there as the proceeds go to a very worthy cause.
If you don’t frequent resale shops, you should visit the Discovery Shop, run by the American Cancer Society. The staff is very friendly and efficient, there is always a great selection and great sales of not only clothes both women’s and men’s, but hard goods as well. The store is always clean and the displays well put together. I have purchased SO many cool things - come in and see for yourself- you won’t be disappointed……!
You never know what you're going to find at this hidden gem! Unlike some thrift shops, the Discovery Shop items are displayed neatly, are clean and are displayed beautifully. The volunteers are kind and friendly. Due to there being more upscale items, I don't mind spending a little more and supporting the American Cancer Society and I usually don't leave without a treasure!

This store is a hidden gem! I have found great designer clothes here for such a good price! They have a great book selection and puzzles too! And I’ve donated things as well! If you’ve never shopped here you are missing out!
This store has some great brands and an amazing selection. The volunteers that work at this shop are the best! You have got to check this place out and bonus it all benefits the American Cancer Society and the fight against cancer.
I love this place. I’ve been going for years. Prices are reasonable and the volunteer staff is super friendly and informative. I always find something there. Thank you for what you do for those who have cancer, battled cancer and their families. As a mother of a childhood cancer survivor I appreciate all efforts made for helping to find a cure.
This place is a ripoff. It charges 3 to 4 times higher for 30 and 40 year old items than other thrift stores would charge. They say they get upscale resale items from a consignment store, but they are higher than the consignment store right around the corner which is probably where they get their stuff. Yeah it is for charity, but you have to look out for the consumer too. They are a money hungry ripoff charitable organization.
Upscale thrift store that benefits American Cancer Society. Very organized and clean. Good selection of items which are changed according to the season. Dedicated volunteers work in the shop. I have donated several items here as well.
